2018 Ridge Gonsalves Mataro (Contra Costa County). This is delicious but flirts with a bit of underripeness (in a good way). Nose has a slight vegetal note (as my brother pointed out), but also has vanilla and nice ripe cherry. No inderripeness in the mouth, with great acid/fruit balance. Delicious and a unique take in that it avoids blowsey jamminess that some wineries get from warm Contra Costa County fruit. — 8 days ago
Glorious expression of California Pinot Noir….explosive nose of dark plum, cherry, cranberry, strawberry, blueberry, and baking spices. Weightless, lively, balanced, absolute fun to swallow. I enjoy Pinot… but this is another level. Not quite Burgundy, not California, not Willamette….but absolute Socratic Pinot Noir. The meal kinda sucked… but… but this wine almost made it worth the time, reservation, bullshit necessary for decent Covid dining. Bright, lip-smacking, multi-faceted and changing with time in the glass. Smooth, silky, sexy…. Well worth the expense and time in the cellar. — 11 days ago
Giving this a try with 7 years on it. Aging well, oak is finally a little more muted giving way to cedar, sage, mocha, vanilla, and butterscotch. Beautiful expression of Livermore fruit. Balanced acidity. 14.1% — 6 days ago
Deep gold with apple, pear, honey, pineapple with some oak and smoke on the nose. Medium to full body with a fresh acidity that is balanced by the subtle tannins. Buttery but not overly so with apple, poached pear, peaches in cream, kiwi and pineapple with some notes earthy oakiness. Peaches linger in the hot medium long finish.

Nose has brown butter sauteed pineapple, fresh coconut meat, (damp) crushed granite, faint sea spray and baked pear.
Palate has under-ripe pineapple, lime peel, sugared lemon slice, cold caramel yellow apple, phenolic notes which runout though a medium finish.
Needs YEARS, revisit 2026+.
