Pisano

RPF Reserva Personal de la Familia Progreso Tannat 2017

Dark ruby and intense in color. Nose of cigar box and leather which developed and a matured cherry flavour boosted.
A multidimensional palate with good structure of tanins, long finish.
Remarkable.

Domaine A. et P. de Villaine

Bouzeron Aligoté 2013

Made from the other White Burgundy grape, Aligote. Made by probably the most famous name in Burgundy, Aubert de Villaine and his American born wife, Pamela. Aubert is the wine director and proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanee Conti. This is his own personal project. The wine itself:- Mid lemon in colour. Herbs, citrus and a touch of aniseed on the nose. The palate is very citric and mineral with a noticeable saline note. More palate weight than it had a few years ago. Medium minus Acid. Drinking well now and no need to cellar any further. Great winemaking at an affordable price. — 5 years ago

Napa Valley Zinfandel 2015

Willing to apologize for my personal bias upfront. Visited this winery in CA and this is simply the best Zin you’ll find. SNS. It’s great. — 5 years ago

Seña

Aconcagua Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2005

In a fantastic spot now with tertiary notes showing a tiny little bit. I would finish my bottles but that is very personal. — 6 months ago

Sierra Foothills Red Blend 2015

2018 vintage. Light-bodied red suitable to a light chill with just a touch of steminess. Cranberry, tart cherry, lingonberry, raspberry, violet, crab apple, cherry blossom, star anise. A little heavier-bodied than a PN, but would definitely appeal to fans of the same. — 4 years ago

Rivers-Marie

Occidental Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.

Really enjoyed my visiting with Will at Mending Wall where he poured Rivers-Marie as well as his personal label William & Mary.

Such a treat to try this side by side with the Summa. Very different. Quite a bit more sweet and ripe fruit here framed by good acidity and herbal crunch. Some blood orange and tangy red fruits mixed with blackberries and a great finish. Will get better, but hard to wait!

Brut Réserve Champagne Blend

It was 19 in TX Tues, hailed yesterday, and is 80 degrees today. Welcome to spring in TX.

I love the info on the back of these bottles as they give detail to the base vintage and when they were disgorged. This is ‘08 base, disgorged 2017.

Right up my alley. I’d call this oxidative, but not overly so. There is a Krug-ness about this style. It’s toasty and savory with a little caramel, toffee and baked apple. Creamy. For my personal taste, while I enjoy all champagne cold, this is one of the few styles that holds up well even once it warms up slightly as there isn’t a lot of tartness here.

We are opening something special as well tonight, @Shay A. Had quarter size hail up here but no damage and already had neighbor inspect the roof! Might be a Champagne night for us as well to toast our week of Spring 🤣!

@David T : I love it! I’m going to re-stock.

@Ryan Vento : Stay safe down there! We all know that spring in TX is a roll of the dice.

@Mark Flesher : Glad there wasn’t any damage! Think we escaped unscathed as well.

@Bob McDonald : I’m inclined to agree with you. Can’t think of anything else that I would take over this at the price.

A beautiful wine , a little on the oak side for my personal taste but a good wine none the less . — 4 years ago

Serrat

Serrat Pinot Noir 2016

From the Mornington Peninsula (although the fruit for this Pinot Noir came from the Yarra Valley ) - this is Tom Carson’s personal project when he’s not making wine for Yabby Lake - his main job. This had strawberry and other red fruits like cherry and a small whole bunch influence. Oak is dialled right back. A medium weight palate that is yet to show its full potential. First of 3 purchased and somewhat closed. Will leave having the 2nd for a couple of years. — 4 years ago

Taylor Fladgate

20 Years Old Tawny Port Blend

20-year tawny a personal favorite. I’m always amazed how good this is whenever I have a glass. Taylor run today from Oporto by descendants of the Yeatman & Fladgate families, both of which have been partners in the firm since 1830s. Complex aromas rich with dried fruits & nutty spice. On the palate apricot and sweet berry flavors with honey and toasted nut notes, well balanced nice acidity. Lingering finish ending smooth with oaky nutty character. Very Nice. Price keeps going up each year. Tasting Sample. — 5 years ago
