Wirra Wirra

Vineyard Series Jones Block Shiraz 1994

This is Wirra Wirra Shiraz "Vineyard Series", McLaren Vale, Australia, vintage 1994.

This wine is so good, they should figure out a way to bottle it. It's the best wine I've had in a few years, and I give it a 10! It's just perfect.

The wax seal was fun, and my ah-so opener did a fine job with the cork. Upon opening, this Shiraz presented strong meaty and sweaty notes.
The color is a beautiful pale purple.
This is so soft and luxurious on the tongue, with bright red fruit prominent. A little bit of tartness, so I'll say strawberries and cranberries. Any secondary flavors (leather, spice, smoked meats) take a back seat to the fruit. The slightest tannins on the finish, but so slight and soft.
Patience paid off, this wine is perfect at 31 years. I would not want to let it rest any longer.
The fine print from the back label:
This Shiraz was sourced from the Jones Block vineyard by grower David Paxton and produced by winemaker Ben Riggs. Aged in American and French oak barriques until its release in 1998. 168 dozen bottles made.
A simple label holding a spectacular wine!
Listening to Thelonious Monk.

MV McLaren Vale Shiraz 2020

2020 vintage. MV Shiraz. MV stands for both Mc Laren Vale and Multiple Vineyards, as this is a 100% Shiraz blend from 4 of the 6 biodynamically farmed Paxton estates. All parcels were vinified seperately, aged in French oak and blended prior to bottling. Intense perfume of blackberries and subtle spices with a hint of eucalyptus. Fresh, energetic and balanced with very good spicy length. Abv. 14%. — 5 years ago

drank a glass a night over 4 nights ~ 1st night paired well with steak on the grill with some sautéed mushrooms ~ following nights didn’t “require” food and could appreciate on its own ~ loads of dark berries followed by a mocha profile with some spices — 6 years ago

Quandong Farm Vineyard Shiraz 2012

First glass out of the bottle was tight and a bit astringent but after several hours in the decanter the dark fruit flavors rounded out and took on an almost caramelized burnt sugar undertone which was lovely — 11 years ago
