Prairie Artisan Ales and Evil Twin Collaboration. Nearly headless, then about a quarter headed with a dark chocolate wafer color, and shoe-mesh texture. Ebon and daunting. Pecan-espresso and darkest chocolate, burnt caramel, vanilla bean, strangely mint and flax-hemp seed. Canβt shake the peppermint patty-ness of this initially, but then dark mocha lava cake minus the sweetness. Pointed espresso oils, bitter chicory, vanilla, whiskey barrel brings up the rear with ginger, clove and Tagalong cookies, ending peppery but still dark chocolate throughout. Beautiful treatment here. Keeping it dark as the jacket of the Holy Writ. β 7 years ago

It's Blanton's, proofed up to 103. Being a single barrel, Blanton's is consistently good but not consistently great. This bottle is well above average. It smells and tastes like something from the Van Winkle bourbon lineup. Dark cherry, apricot, leather, cigar box. Much more pleasing than last years bottle. I thought the Gold used to be in a skinnier 700ml bottle, but this is 750ml. Maybe I'm losing it π€

This one is an O,Medium Dark amber unctiousness. So pleasant; apricot with peach weight decadence meets drizzled caramel and baked apple that brings pine forest fire sharply, hot and precise, before grilled yellow peppers and lava salt unfold to daffodil delicate and ethereal. Nose of golden tears. You drink in acanthus long before your sip; gum Arabic, hot orange honey and graphite. Mocha tobacco, bourbon barrel aged grappa, smoke of charred pit pig fat, roasted Tabasco pepper, and cinnamon oil and green olive grapple over cracked black pepper, anise seed, lavender oil, oregano oil and charred orange peel. Disturbs the mind in its swing from darkness to light, from life to death and finally rebirth. Volcanic and chaotic, but ripe for life and ultimately reverberating in possibility. #nikka #nikkawhisky #nikkapuremalt #taketsuruwhisky #thenikkawhiskydistillingco #whisky #japan #japanesewhisky #nippon #nipponwhisky #masetakataketsuru #yoichi #miyagikyo #whiskey β 6 years ago
Smells sweet caramel like a bourbon, tastes spicy like a rye β 7 years ago
Batch 40. A little thinner than earlier batches. Delightfully complex nose -- even has some cocoa notes. Strong initial burn that fades into a long finish.
Minor flaws: a sulfur note, maybe from the cognac barrel. Also the sharp heat is a bit more than expected for the 6y+ blend. β 7 years ago
