The Gattavecchi family has been making wine in Montepulciano since the1950s, with the purchase of the Poggio alla Sala estate. Ruby with aromas of red berry, herb and floral notes. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2017

Crushed black cherries, blueberry skins, sage, stone dust and hints of animal musk, all come together to form a deeply satisfying bouquet on the 2017 Tiberio Montepulciano. On the palate, soft, round textures give way to a twang of tart wild berry fruits, complemented by saline-minerals and then firmed up with grippy tannins. The finish is long and structured, yet still packed with spicy primary fruits and remaining fresh through residual acids. I know Cristiana isn’t a big fan of her warmer vintage wines, but the 2017 has the stuffing to improve in our cellars while still pleasing today. — 25 days ago
