Double Lariat Limited Production Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

We have been drinking this wine for 10 years now. As the fruit drops out it becomes more stringent with strong oak tannins, losing some of its depth and ease of drinking. — 3 months ago

Pellet Estate

Pellet Vineyard Merlot 2021

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Reddish in color with medium plus intensity and a wide reddish rim.

Strong nose of red fruits with light cedar, earth, tobacco leaf, black pepper, herbs and black tea.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Merlot from Napa Valley. Fruity and rich. Complex and entertaining.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime.

This Single Vineyard Merlot is elegant and nicely balanced. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

I had different vintages of this wine and it is very consistent.

Easy drinking and good by itself as a sipping wine.

100% Merlot grapes were aged in French oak barrels. A tiny production of only 300 bottles.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Limited Production Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Magistrate – Cabernet Sauvignon, 2019
Paso Robles AVA, Central Coast – USA 🇺🇸

Overview:
A limited production release of just 2,698 cases, this Cabernet Sauvignon captures the sun-drenched character of Paso Robles while offering an approachable, easy-drinking style. Crafted with a balance between fruit concentration and accessibility, it reflects the Central Coast’s charm.

Aromas & Flavors:
Bursts of ripe red fruits, blackberry preserves, and raspberry jelly intertwine with a subtle touch of spice and vanilla. A jammy core gives way to notes of plum compote and a hint of cocoa in the background.

Mouthfeel:
Medium-bodied with a juicy, fruit-forward palate. The tannins are soft and rounded, creating an inviting structure that leads to a smooth, lingering finish full of berry-like sweetness.

Food Pairings:
Perfect for casual settings—think BBQ ribs, grilled burgers, or pizza with pepperoni. It also plays well with cheddar or gouda cheeses for a laid-back pairing.

Verdict:
A fruit-driven, approachable Paso Robles Cabernet that shows off the region’s sun-kissed terroir. Casual and comforting, this bottle is all about enjoyment rather than contemplation. Cheers!

@David White David, at least Adrian Sparks is the Chief Winemaker and has been at Mount Pleasant for a while. I met Adrian at a lunch at Mount Pleasant some years ago when he was assistant to the then highly credentialed Jim Chatto who has moved on to his own venture in Tasmania. The terroir at Mount Pleasant is so established and excellent I’m sure it will always be very good and as I say, Adrian is chief winemaker.

@Bob McDonald Thank you for detail on Adrian Sparks. I’m sure you are right that it will be ok, I need to research their latest releases and find a good independent retailer, my local guy who specialised in individual vineyards was bought out by BWS 😩

Perus Wine

Bryn Proprietary Red Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2022

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Deep inky in color with a short purple rim.

Very complex nose with blackberries, black currants, cooked plums, cedar, tobacco, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, eacaliptus, Indian spices and black pepper.

Full bodied and soft, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, vanilla, milk chocolates, dried fruits and peppercorn.

Very long finish with fine grained tannins, spices and cherries.

This 3 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is already drinking gorgeously. Rich and extracted, yet elegant. Soft and smooth with a great mouthfeel.

Still young, but already so delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 10 years and see how it evolves.

I've had many different vintages of this wine and it is very consistent.

Fruity, good right out of the bottle, and much better after 4 hours in the decanter.

Powerful with subtle elegance. Spicy and entertaining. A gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. A small production of only 300 cases.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

95 points.
