Marchese di Borgosole

Rosato Puglia Rosé Blend

Marchese di Borgosole — Rosato Puglia Rosé Blend 2024, Puglia IGT — Italy 🇮🇹

Overview:
A southern Italian rosé crafted from a local blend of indigenous grapes (not available into, but typically in Puglia rosé style draws from Negroamaro, Primitivo, or even Sangiovese. The 2024 vintage leans drier and more restrained, shifting focus from fruit to freshness and balance.

Aromas & Flavors:
Subtle notes of strawberry, raspberry, and watermelon, with lighter fruit intensity than the 2023 (also reviewed). Delicate floral hints and a touch of citrus bring lift and clarity, giving it a more refined and less fruit-driven profile.

Mouthfeel:
Light to medium-bodied with crisp acidity. Noticeably drier, cleaner, and more linear than the prior vintage, with a refreshing finish that carries a subtle savory edge.

Food Pairings:
White pizza, cheese-based dishes, antipasti, grilled vegetables, and light Mediterranean fare. Excellent as an aperitivo, but truly shines alongside creamy and savory flavors.

Verdict:
A more composed and food-friendly evolution of this rosé. Less fruit-forward, more balanced and dry, making it the more versatile and compelling vintage.

Did You Know?
In southern Italy, rosés are often designed to handle warm climates and food pairings, which is why many lean toward a drier, more savory finish rather than overt fruitiness.

🍷 Personal Pick Insight:
The v.2024 takes the edge, less fruit, more structure, and significantly better with food. And if adventurous, a white pizza pairing? Spot on!

Marchese di Borgosole

Puglia Fiano 2024

Marchese di Borgosole – Fiano – 2024
Puglia IGT – Puglia – Italy 🇮🇹

Overview
A fresh and approachable expression of Fiano from Puglia, showcasing the grape in a lighter, more casual style compared to its often more structured Campanian counterparts. This version leans into drinkability and immediate appeal, delivering vibrant fruit and clean balance while maintaining varietal character.

Aromas & Flavors
Juicy stone fruit, ripe pear, and citrus lead the profile, followed by hints of tropical notes and delicate floral tones. A subtle nutty and herbal edge adds dimension without overpowering the fruit-forward nature.

Mouthfeel
Light- to medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and a smooth, easygoing texture. Clean, lively, and pleasantly rounded, finishing with a crisp and satisfying lift.

Food Pairings
Grilled seafood, light pasta, fresh salads, antipasti, or soft cheeses. Also works beautifully as a standalone sipper.

Verdict
A charming, fruit-driven Fiano that prioritizes accessibility and enjoyment. Not built for depth or aging, but absolutely delivers on freshness and immediate pleasure.

Did You Know?
Fiano originates from Campania, where it often shows more structure and aging potential. In southern regions like Puglia, it tends to express a more open, fruit-forward, and easy-drinking personality.

🍷 Personal Pick
A “pleasant surprise” bottle that overdelivers in the casual category, juicy, clean, and dangerously easy to keep pouring.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Le Volte Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2020

Tenuta dell’ Ornellia’s entry level offering. Blend of Merlot (50%), Sangiovese (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). Dark ruby/purple color. Ripe red fruit aromas with hints of tobacco, purple flowers, spices, crushed stones and garrigue. Ripe strawberry, cherry and red currant on the creamy pallet with notes of spices, vanilla, orange zest and cedar. Juicy and luscious. Just a baby, (nicely balanced) but there is a lot to like here. Outstanding QPR! Punches way above its price weight. Happy Birthday Kieth S! — 4 years ago

Riserva Salice Salentino Negroamaro 2021

Well this bottle cost me a Nickel as it was my Birthday Wine bottle from Total wine. For this price, this is pretty good. Actually, even for the retail price of $15 it’s pretty good. Red fruit, leaves, wet stones, stewed fruits, nice body and acidity. Medium finish. — 2 months ago

Espectacle del Montsant

Montsant Garnacha 2017

Pronounced “Es-peck-tuckle dell Mont-sunt.” Located in so-called armpit of Spain’s prestigious wine country principally because of its rustic quality. Deep Ruby with intense fruit aromas and sweet floral spice, aged 15 mos in French oak, from a warm dry vintage. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and raspberry with currants, sweet cacao, floral & pepper spice. Fine big tannins, well balanced with long finish finesse, ending with herb and spice, adding slight alcohol warmth. — 4 years ago
