It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Red and black fruits on the nose with tobacco, light wood, licorice, chocolates, black pepper, herbs and spices.
Full bodied and soft with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with cherries, red currants, sweet raspberries, coffee, sweet oak, chocolates, licorice, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth and mediterranean spices.
Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 4 year old Super Tuscan Merlot is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and entertaining.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, and balance itself out.
Still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years.
Wine Spectator 94 points.
I had the 2021 vintage a couple of years ago at the winery, and it was much better. The 2022 vintage was not as good as the 2021, so there's that.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food.
100% Merlot grapes were aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.
14% alcohol by volume.
91 points.

Выпито третьим вином в этот же день. 100% это было лишнее. Хотя как супертосканское 2018 года - оно было бесподобно (мое любимое. ) — 8 months ago
super sweet and golden. Norway 2026 — 3 months ago
Golden coloration. On the nose, lemon, brioche, minerals. On the palate, nice creamy texture, fuller body, a touch of earthiness, but primarily long lasting citrus and lemon notes with minerality on the palate that finishes strong with those 3 notes ending with a crush of a acidity. — 4 months ago
30 mins of air, just opened not decanted.
Very nice indeed though with burgers at home. You can sense the viscosity on the nose, black and blue fruits, licorice and some feral meaty bits in the background.
Drinks exceptionally smoothly, most of the tannins resolved. The viscosity on the palate is balanced by enough acidity to keep it in balance. Black/blue fruits repeat with a hint of chewiness, coating is an understatement. Long finish. Leather and coal tar(?). Interesting that these have such a decently long lifespan. When kept on some ice/water during the meal, it improves as a whole as the temperature drops a few degrees. The thickness recedes a bit and acidity shines up front.
Shame I have no more.

I usually don’t bother to report on the cork, but the cork in this bottle was stained a deep purple – almost black. I sniffed it and the intensity of its bouquet told me that this wine would be luscious. Herbal (sage & oregano) with a hint of rich umami solidity (almost like bacon). All from a cork! In a glass, the nose is less intense. Oregano and sage dominate. The “meatiness” of cork scent fades way back. Fruit forward without being syrupy — black cherries. Medium tannic structure, with hints of dark chocolate at the lower end of the spectrum balanced by a pleasing earthy minerality in the high notes. Unfortunately, the finish fades quickly. If this wine had a long finished, I’d probably give it at 9.8, but as it is a 9.5 will have to suffice. — 2 months ago
2021 vintage. Last tasted 3.25.26 (9.0). Liked this time even less. Not feeling this vintage. 4.29.26. — 4 months ago

delicious: butterscotch - really sexy, orchard fruit juxtaposed w/salinity & minerals - full bodied, voluptuous, cellar temp was downright silky leading to long resonant finish. I've had this many times and they were always older & oxidized - would argue these are better younger — 3 days ago
