Madeline Puckett

Raul Pérez

Ultreia Saint Jacques Mencía

Suggested at Grand Cata on 11/29/2024 when I asked for Ribera sacra bzw. Galicia. $30. L noted Chambers had shipped same wine! Likely natural then, though lacking that liveliness. Drank 11/30/2024. Ash, bubble gum on nose. Puckett tannins will likely settle down with time and warmth. Black fruit, violets, gravel/slate. Long strong finish lingers. — 2 years ago

Silver Lining Willamette Valley 2015

Revisiting 2015 vintage. Pale yellow white, excellent clarity. Floral nose. Bone dry, floral, citrus and pear flavors, lean, good acidity and mouthfeel, some skin astringency and lactic character on finish. 35/24/18/14/5/4 blend of Siegerebe, Madeline Angevine, Madeline Sylvaner, Grüner Veltliner, Gewürtztraminer and Riesling. 270 cases. — 7 years ago

Domaine Leflaive

Mâcon-Verzé Chardonnay

There’s a lot going on with this wine. A yeasty nose, and a Puckett Granny Smith mid palette with a bit of a peppery gravel finish. Was a delight with roast chicken, sourdough, dandelion blue cheese salad: every bite revealed new character in the wine. Drank the 2015 in 2020. — 6 years ago

No. 394 San Diego Pale Ale

In honor of San Diego legend Tony Gwynn. We have not been blessed with many winning teams in this town and absolutely zero championships (I don't count the '63 AFL title) but #19 was truly something special. I'm not sure how he was/is viewed in other parts of the nation but to me he was the greatest pure hitter of his era. George Brett, Boggs, Mattingly, Puckett and Molitor all come to mind as non power guys that got way more pub than him but absolutely nobody was more reliably consistent from the mid 80's to mid 90's than T. Cheers 🍻 to him up in that big 5.5 hole in the sky. — 9 years ago

I believe Gwynn was and is universally respected as one of the greatest pure hitters of all time. He should also get respect for being the face of the franchise playing his whole career with the Padres. Glad my Braves are leaving town after getting smoked by your Team.

Once again Delectable proves to me that guys who appreciate the complexities of wine are sharp in a myriad of other areas! Thank you @Andrew Willingham @philip Angino @Chris Parrino @Mike R @Ned blodgett @leon egozi for confirming that Gwynn got the recognition he deserves outside of CA. ESPN Sports Center had a huge East Coast bias back in the day (the reason for Gina Toretra winning the Heisman over Marshall Faulk 🙄) it's cool to know that wine friends in Canada, FLA, the Northeast and the South respected him like I did.
