Shouldn’t we rate more wines on drinkability? I’d enjoyed a glass or two of other wines over dinner and then opened this as a reliable partner for the evening. I’m now finishing the bottle. On my own 🙁 /😋 Yes the Germans haven’t caught burgundy up but this still is a satisfying pinot at an affordable price. It’s fairly light on its feet, carries a twist of spice and is more savoury than new world pinot pretenders. Mission accomplished. — 5 years ago

First Charta Riesling I have tried (and still the only one I have ever come across). Complex aromatics of white flowers, crushed stone, and red apple. Barely off dry with adequate acidity - this is designed as the perfect food wine. Very good at $19 (on sale).
11.5% abv - 9.8 g/l RS - 6.9 g/l acidity
More on Charta Riesling: An esteemed group of 30 top VDP growers in Rheingau who release this style of Riesling. Must meet the groups high standards to release in their inimitable bottles (heavy, dark hued glass ready for the cellar) with the embossed Romanic arches. — 5 years ago
2017 VDP Grosse Lage. Love Dönnhoff! The tangy pineapple flavor went great with Singapore Mai Fun and dumplings 🥟 — 6 years ago
Beautiful nose, full or ripe citrus, a touch of yellow stone fruit, candied orange peel, a bit exotic, but also a bit wild. There’s incredible cool freshness here, despite the ripeness. So enticing!
On the palate with racy, juicy, electric acidity but also ripe stone fruit, a slight touch of tannic grip, a brilliant stony minerality. This has great depth and brilliant purity but also some interesting edges and a smoky hint to it. Very complex. It’s not bone dry and the touch of wood aging adds a bit of creaminess.
I wouldn’t call it elegant but this is a great wine, full of character and energy.
Absolutely brilliant. And drinking so beautifully right now. — 5 months ago
Weingut Wittmann is a longstanding member of the VDP – an association of quality-minded producers in Germany who impose upon themselves more rigorous rules than are imposed under German wine law, in pursuit of excellence, authenticity, & a purity of terroir expression.
This is the “GG” 2021 Wittmann Morstein Riesling, made with fruit from a Große Lage-designated vineyard site (i.e., Morestein) pursuant to the VDP classification system, which means it’s a top quality site, akin to a “grand cru” vineyard in Burgundy, capable of producing fruit for age-worthy wines of distinction.
We’re drinking it in a youthful (and still delicious!) state now – stored in the right conditions, it could age for a decade+…
In appearance, this wine has a medium lemon hue with medium (+) intensity of precise and lifted aromas and flavors including white peach, apricot, mango, kumquat, green apple, lemon peel, lime zest, blossom, honeysuckle, wet slate, flint, oystershell, saline, and petrol notes.
The palate is bone dry with medium alcohol (12.5% ABV), a medium body, and racy acidity.
It’s elegant, angular, & nuanced.
We’re pairing it with grilled, spice-rubbed pork tenderloin and roasted brussels sprouts. — a year ago

My favorite sparking ever! Pure minerals and super dry. — 5 years ago
Riktigt gott. Fin syra. Litet sött. Om man är trött på riesling, vilket man ju aldrig är, kan man prova detta. — 6 years ago
