@Tom Casagrande, is there a particular “village” in the Côtes du Rhône somewhere on the label?? I always thought (but hopelessly old and with a failing memory) that to bear the CdRV AOC, there had to be an identified village?!?!

@Doug Powers - Nope. My understanding is that if it’s from one particular village within the CDRV limits they have the right to do so, but not required. And multi village blends within the limits would be just CDRV.

Le Chant des Vignes Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Green apple, peach, mineral and floral notes right after opening. As it warms up has a slightly oily sensation reminiscent of lemon peel. At an even later stage a sweet aroma of fennel seeds. Nice long finish with a slight hint of refreshing bitterness. Hint of smokiness as well. Rounded mouthfeel with good and balanced acidity. — 7 years ago

La Bruja Avería Rozas de Puerto Real Grenache 2015

To me good wine stands out from average wine when I can sense three things from it: time, place and intention.
This rustic garnacha clearly carries these three indices.
The top layer of smell is rustic- farm, soil. Sticking my nose in the glass I'm greeted with a maraschino liquor soaked cherry wood barrel.
The palate tells me it's been maturing and mellowing for three quarters of a decade - this is mature but eagerly waiting to be opened. There aren't layers to this- it's straight forward, direct, open and expressive. Elegant in it's simplicity but certainly not posh. Dry, but very much alive, like the garrigues that was once rooted where this vineyard now stands. This is central Spain.

Garrigues Vacqueyras Grenache Blend 2015

Delectable Wine
9.2

The Grenache-based 2015 Vacqueyras Garrigues presents a riot of vibrant, spice and mineral accented red fruit and floral notes, with just a hint of youthful tannins. It will make a great match for grilled or braised meat and mushroom dishes. $25.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, November 2018) — 8 years ago
