Grenache based Red. Light garnet color. Intense aromas of tar, asphalt, rubber, and dark cherry. Pallet is still reasonably fresh with notes of cooked dark cherry, plum tobacco, roasted nuts and herbs. Hints of watermelon on the long and Smokey finish. Oak has integrated very nicely. See previous notes on July 2018 and October 2021. This is maturity nicely. Keith Mugford, the owner and winemaker said on release “It will take at least 10 years to develop some bottle age characters and will probably reach its peak somewhere around 20 years old. However it should continue to be drinkable up to 30 years old, at least and especially for those bottles under screw cap.” (Which this was). Showing cassis, mulberry, cedar and a little tobacco. Mouth filling and delicious. Rich and sweet - could be described as a Shiraz lover’s Cabernet. Great persistence - smooth and slippery tannins. A very good vintage in Margaret River. I have 3 left - next one in late 2026 or 2027 when 20 years old. I also have a Magnum which should not be touched until at least 25 years of age. — 5 months ago

Classic wine from a classic producer. Another stellar vintage of this outstanding wine! Dark ruby color with a slight garnet rim. Starts out a bit tight but opens beautifully. Aromas of black cherry/plum with hints of dried rose petals, rosemary, chai spices and garrigue. Palate shows more cooked black cherries and plums with notes of bay leaves and baker’s chocolate. Touches of dried earth, minerals and smoke on the long and luxurious finish. Full bodied and noticeable tannins that will continue to soften with time. Beautifully balanced. Stellar! My daughter turns 10 today and to celebrate we popped this bottle of 20 year old wine.
It's showing a bit of age as there's a brickish rim around the glass and the nose shows tertiary aromas with mushrooms and wet forest soil. Upon opening, black currant and raspberry could still be felt but it faded away since then. There is still tar and a tiny bit of oak in there too. The palate is well designed with a good acid drive, some tangy, black fruits notes, some width, a lively mouthfeel with a bit of grain that leaves a drying, dusty layer over a rather long fruity finish with a pinch of oak. 20 years old and kicking 👍🏻 we had it along ribs we grilled and it did go quite well. — 8 months ago
