Twelve Clones Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2018

Light purple in color with light intensity and a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light flowers, spices, light oak, licorice, tobacco and black pepper.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with sweet raspberries, cherries, red currants, earth, light wood, coffee, black pepper, spices, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf and herbs.

Tangy finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 8 year old Pinot Noir from Santa Lucia Highlands is drinking very nicely now, and will continue to do so in the next 5 years.

Elegant and nicely balanced, complex and entertaining. Soft, smooth and easy drinking.

Wine Enthusiasts 92 points.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A good porch wine too.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$35 (at release).

Felton Road

Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2019

Unmistakably Central Otago to my palate. Red plums and raspberries. 20% of the grapes were whole bunch. Also aged in 27% new oak. I must mention Neil Martin’s famous Quote, “ Whenever there is a tasting designed to challenge the supremacy of Burgundy, it is usually Felton Road that is ushered into the ring”. Very much on allocation these days and can be difficult to source. — 2 months ago

Better acidity than burgundy.

Roar

Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

. This Garys did not disappoint; loaded with fruit, flowers and spice notes all around. Taste had the same and a bit of cola and some minerality. Very smooth finish just a very enjoyable wine.

Last bottle of Garys, in fact no more Rosella and Pisoni either. Always thought the Garys’ were the best. Rosella were okay and forget about the Pisoni. Pisoni were either so over the top it was undrinkable and then another bottle was stunning - stopped buying them early on. Still have a bunch of Roar’s Sierra Mar and SLH. But over all, prices too high and I’m too old to hold wines for 5 to 10 years before drinking them.

Westside Road Neighbors Pinot Noir 2023

2023 vintage - it opened brighter than expected with bold ripe flavors and more fruit forward than expected. It was a nice surprise. After 30 minutes the flavors balanced a bit and tasted less bright and fruity and more balanced. The wife and I enjoyed the bottle. — 6 months ago

Caraccioli Cellars

Santa Lucia Highlands Brut Rosé Blend 2017

Grower bubbles from the Santa Lucia Highlands. Still can’t compete with top tier grower champagne (we don’t get that phenolic maturity at low brix etc) BUT excellent none the less. The rosé from Caraccioli especially stands out. The 1-2% SLH Pinot brings an element of coastal Cali terroir to this wine (the tiniest hint of that strawberry, herbal quality) which blends so perfectly with the lemon juice and marzipan/vanilla/lanolin leesy quality. Fine persistent mousse. One of the best examples of domestic sparkling I’ve had. — 3 years ago

Big ol’ Pinot… if by name only

Heavy body….. deep ruby color.
Musty, earthy nose
Powerful Friit - maybe black cherry
A touch earth / bitter lingers. A touch of oak.
Zin / Cab vibes
Nice glass of wine…
