High Sands McLaren Vale Grenache 2016

A highly awarded Grenache from McLaren Vale made by the talented Peter Fraser. Sweet red earthy fruits but not overly raspberry as Aussie Grenache often is. Has a lovely sweet smooth texture. James Halliday awarded this wine his Wine of the Year in 2020 and 99 points. Vines planted in 1946 in ancient sandy soils ideal for this Grenache. If not Australia’s best Grenache then certainly in the conversation. The main reason we drank this wine a few days ago was to remember Peter Fraser who sadly passed away unexpectedly in a tragic house fire. — 23 days ago

Very sad story @Bob McDonald — we all lost another Grenache virtuoso recently in France, Emmanuel Reynard of Chateau Rayas!!

Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2021

Really liked this but dont agree with reviews that it was heavy. In fact I found it medium bodied. A little high alcohol. Nice bite. — 18 days ago

Big Table Farm

Pelos-Sandberg Vineyard Pinot Noir 2022

Light red in color with light intensity.

Fruity nose of bing cherries, red candy, light wood and chocolates.

Medium-bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, raspberries, sweet strawberries, light oak, spices, earth, herbs and light green vegetables.

Tangy finish with soft tannins and raspberries.

This 3-year-old Pinot Noir from Oregon is starting to drink nicely now, but still very young. Needs 3 to 5 years in the bottle to mature properly.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 30 minutes.

This Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is showing nice complexity with a soft mouth feel. Elegant, easy drinking and good by itself or with food.

12.9% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2011

Our (not so) little (anymore) princess her birthday so time for our yearly 2011. After having rated two previous bottles not as high as you would expect this one actually delivered. Very elegant, in balance and clearly at peak. Quite some years ahead — 5 days ago

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2017

Reddish in color with light intensity.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing raspberries, sweet strawberries, cherish, earth, light wood, spices, dark chocolates, herbs and black pepper.

This 8 year old Pinot Noir from Oregon is drinking very nicely now. Complex and interesting. Feels like a lightly aged Burgundy.

Good right out of the bottle, and gets earthier as it opens. Will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

I had a few vintages of this wine and it is very consistent.

Elegant and good by itself or with food.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo

Floral notes on the nose — roses, hibiscus, plus mint, and the dry fragrance of sun-bleached wood. Strawberries on the front. Medium tannic structure. Black tea high notes with hint mint on the mid palate. Citrusy finish with long acidic afterburn. My description fails in that it makes it sound like a light and floral wine. But taken altogether, this is wine is rock solid, and it hasn’t even begun to develop. — 5 days ago

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1991

Light medium caramel core , light copper rim. Quite mature , with spiced creme brûlée , saffron , burnt sugar , some crystallised orange peel , desiccated coconut . Slightly monochrome . On the palate this is quite light , with quite high acidity and a burnt caramel bitterness . Medium sweetness only , quite refreshing acidity . Slightly bitter orange caramel finish . Drink now qnd over the next few years , won’t improve . — 2 months ago
