Château La Tour Haut-Brion

Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

This was a dead ringer for La Mission HB with lots of dark fruits, cedar, leather, smoke, graphite & tobacco. — 4 years ago

9.2

Very delightful white, 2022, not sweet, good minerality, seems like it could pair with a lot of things — 5 months ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan White Bordeaux Blend 2013

More expressive than HB.
Very elegant, deep and austere.
At the same time it’s able to be expressive.

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1971

1971 vintage. Bottom shoulder fill initially had me worried. Decanted and tasted immediately and after two hours. Absolute ton of sed more appropriate for a vintage port. This was banging. Light-medium body. Chunky frontal palate. Plenty of charcoal in the mid-palate with some surprising freshness on a longer than expected finish. Not getting better but feel it can stay the current course for a spell (4-5 years). This was from a 750ml format but a larger format would undoubtedly be an upgrade. La Mission HB is a fave property and this reaffirmed those feelings. 10.13.23 — a year ago

El Puntido Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2009

Beautiful. Young Tempranillo is rough & rugged Wild West tumble weed. This is soft, ruby, lush falling onto minerality and dry brush.

The fruits are dryish to ripe, creamy and rich; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum into black plum pudding, dark cheries, blueberries hues on the long set, dry tobacco, sandalwood to cedar, dry herb-sage & thyme driven, limestone/sandstone minerals, black pepper, anise to black licorice, dark chocolate, caramel, mocha, moist, grey, volcanic clay, withering, dark red, flowers, round acidity, balance, softened tensioned, nicely structured and polish for days that lasts two-minutes.

Paired this with/ a dry rub tri-tip and a burgundy marinaded Cardiff Crack tri-tip. Both very different and enjoyable, but this was a slightly more enjoyable with the Cardiff Crack burgundy marinate.

Photos of; two of their different seasonal vinyards, cave entrance & large cellar vats.

Château Haut-Brion

Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

My first HB. Some of the other tasters thought this wasn’t showing its best but without the past context of other ‘86 HBs I thought it was very good. — a year ago

Château Le Tertre Rôteboeuf

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Tasted blind. Deep, dark amber tinged and tawny color. Hits me immediately as a gravel-influenced Bordeaux and I’m am in Graves with my guess. Notes of tobacco, graphite, ash, earth and gravel stone. Big shoulders, and a little hot. Yet silky in the mouth. I guess 82 La Mish HB. This has plenty of life in front of it, but give it 5+ hrs of air if consuming in the near term as the provider of this wine did. — 4 years ago
