Andre Lurton Entre-Deux-Mers Sauvignon Blanc Sémillon Muscadelle 2019

Crisp like a Sauvignon blanc but more well rounded and lush thanks to the muscadelle and semillon. Floral, citrus and melon aromas. Delicious for Sauvignon blanc lovers who would like a small change. Great white Bordeaux blend! — a month ago

Château Marjosse

Bordeaux Blanc White Bordeaux Blend 2015

This estate is owned by Pierre Lurton (who is also in charge of lesser-known estates Cheval Blanc and Yquem). 2018 was the first vintage where the 4 white grape varieties were picked and vinified separately in order to finetune the blend which has led in this vintage to 44% Sauvignon blanc, 32% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon gris and 4% Muscadelle. No wood. Brilliant light yellow. Attractive nose with pineapple, white peach, grapefruit and a hint of fresh mint. The same fruits show up in the mouthfilling ripe taste, balanced by crisp acidity and a fresh minty long aftertaste. This is absolutely delicious and great value at less than 15 euros. — 23 days ago

The Islander Estate Vineyards

The Investigator Kangaroo Island Cabernet Franc 2008

See previous notes for this cuvée and vintage 76 weeks ago An unlikely venture on Kangaroo Island SA owned by Jacques Lurton of Cheval Blanc fame. The Lurton family own vineyards around the world. This is 100% Cabernet Franc. Herbal tea leaf like notes which belie the sweetish medium weight palate. Red Currant with mild resolved tannins. Overall very pleasing and ready to drink. — a month ago

They do a stunning wine from Rueda called Belondrade y Lurton, quality house. They may also do Cheval des Andes in Argentina which is also outstanding

Château Marjosse

Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. No way one would situate this in the humble Bordeaux appellation in a blind tasting, but that shouldn't come as a surprise, since this estate is owned by Pierre Lurton (who also manages Cheval Blanc and Yquem). A blend of 80% Merlot with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Give it some time to open up or decant, as this is structured to age. Interestingly it tastes like a compromise between right and left bank. The fruit is more black than red, the wine has a serious tannin structure, balanced by good acidity and serious length. Another Bordeaux boxing above its weight. Highly recommended. Abv. 14,5 %. — 17 days ago

Château Marjosse

Cuvée Chardonnay 2018

2018 vintage. The first release of this Chardonnay made in Bordeaux by Pierre Lurton in his secret garden Chateau Marjosse. "Chardonneret" means goldfinch, a bird with many songs. While there is little chance you will get hold of a bottle (total production 1173 bottles, and I drank one already), it's very much worth trying. Don't expect a buttery Chardonnay, this is stylistically closer to Chablis with its intriguing minerality. Subtle nose with white peach, ripe pear and flowers that complement that minerality. While it has some of the Chardonnay roundness, it is all about subtlety with an impeccable purity and balance and some salinity in the finish. Don't serve it too cold and take your time as it will grow on you(even better the next day!). Abv. 13%. — 16 days ago

Cuvée Ortolan Cabernet Franc 2018

2018 vintage. Cuvée Ortolan, 100% Cabernet Franc aka Bouchet. If anyone should know about the heights perfectly ripe Cabernet Franc can achieve, it would be Pierre Lurton, also the manager of Cheval Blanc where Cabernet Franc is the most planted grape variety (52%). This minuscule production (5297 bottles) of pure Cabernet Franc at his own estate Château Marjosse is a sheer delight. Very attractive nose with raspberry, flowers, a hint of fresh rosemary and a subtle dash of pepper. In the mouth it is all about finesse with a Burgundian-like velvety texture, with layers of predominantly red fruits, fresh acidity, refined tannin and a long finish with retronasal fruit and a delicate spiciness. The 14% abv. alcohol goes unnoticed. Beware: this is very hard to resist, be prepared to finish a whole bottle by yourself. Very impressive. — 11 days ago
