Although this isn’t a Barolo, I did drink it there. Close enough as it is from Asti, which was about 20 mins down the road. I mean come on. This was great. Dark fruits like black cherries and reminded me of plums with its taste and its tannins. Had some spice and oak that balanced with the fruit nicely. High acidity but still has a lot of body and depth. Tannins were soft but present. Felt like a polished and serious wine that was excellent alongside our “piedmontese” meal. — 3 months ago

This brilliant red wine presents itself elegantly, with a nose that marries the fruit of Sangiovese with the smoke of Merlot. Dark fruit is what you smell, with a bit of vanilla and spice from the wood. The wine drinks spectacularly, with a full mouthfeel, soft tannins and a long-lasting finish. Opened about five hours prior to service. After a small pour to check color and condition, I found the wine to be a bit grumpy. Some might even believe this could be DOA but the color was good and structurally, the wine was in good shape. So, into the decanter it went. By dinner, the wine had stretched its legs and all was right with the world. The 1976 Barolo annata by Guido Giri pours a slightly garnet with an orange rim; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes resembling Christmas fruitcake; spiced cranberry and pomegranate with dried roses, truffles, cedar, saussison, blood orange pith, dried green herbs and dry dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+ and resplendent tart fruit! What a resurrection! Drink now with an extended decant. — 3 months ago
