Fratelli Alessandria

Monvigliero Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Believe it or not, Fratelli Alessandria was the very first to commercially offer a single expression of Monvigliero (1978); three years before Comm. G.B. Burlotto. That being said, both have played a role in defining the style of this, most famous MGA in Verduno.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2010 Monvigliero pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of ripe and tart, mostly red and some dark fruit: wild forest strawberries, mixed brambles, Morello cherry, pomegranate, truffle, roses, dried green herbs, licorice, some tar, forest floor and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and slightly savory. I think this is in a really lovely spot and anyone who has multiples should try one during this phase of its evolution. That being said, this has a long life ahead. Drink now with patience through 2050+

Asili Di Barbaresco Nebbiolo 1998

Opened a few hours prior to service enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 1998 Asili pours a garnet color with a slightly orange rim and a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with lovely notes of ripe and slightly desiccated fruits: Morello cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, dried roses, leather, some tar, dried green herbs, some anise and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. What a great showing for the ‘98 Asili annata! Drink now with a gentle introduction to air and through 2038. Bottle No. 2476/10,413 — 12 days ago

Cherry and tart. Viscous and bright. Light notes with a tangy drive beneath. High tuned. Excellent. Stop young. — 17 days ago

Santo Stefano Di Neive Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2007

I had a long note for this. I went to take another sip before finishing the note and the app lost it. The sip was more important and more valuable than the note. This is the height of Nebbiolo and Barbaresco. My patience was incredibly rewarded. This has the stuffing to go the distance but I didn’t miss a thing at 18 years. I’ll end it there. #gratefulforgreatwine — 6 days ago

Asili Riserva Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2000

Outstanding and fully developed. This is slightly past the advised drinking window but I had zero complaints. It was a rich brooding wine. Plenty of vigor to go with the maturity. Grounded solidly in Italian soli and dark fruit. Fantastic. — a month ago

Roero Arneis 2023

Really well made, harmonious wine. Balanced and polished nothing really sticks out but at the same time it remains very drinkable. Enjoyed with Vitello tonato in the sun — 2 months ago
