Vigneti Valle Roncati

Leblanque Ghemme 2016

Lyle Fass
9.5

The nose has civilized with air, still wildly Nebbiolo, but now the chestnut, mint, tar, dried roses, spice, and a fascinating honeyed element are all starting to braid together. The palate has insane energy, with the fruit-tannin exchange finally happening instead of the tannins simply taking hostages in the back of the mouth. Beautiful fruit, serious structure, huge Alto Piemonte personality. Nebbiolo remains the most punk rock grape on earth. Amazing wine. — a month ago

Vigna Ronco Al Maso Ghemme Nebbiolo 2017

Some of us, being Nebbiolo supplicants, love Ghemme for its paradoxical meaty, bloody, yet light qualities. This has it in spades, on the edge of cherry cough syrup but never quite there. The woods, especially on the nose. This wine would benefit from a large glass.
It’s a bit of a sneaky, under the radar winery, hopefully for a bit still.
Lots of cherries, loam, dirt, blood, stoniness. Delicious. A ‘17 feels just about right.

Vigneti Costacurta

Tintaunita Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo

This is from Vignetti Costacurta di Costacurta Guido. Ghemme, Italy

Sweet red cherries and citrus blossom on the nose.
This encapsulates everything great about Northern Italian 'table wine'- drinkable, even gulpable with or without food but so much more elevated with a really nicely balanced acid to fruit ratio light but present tannins and a surprisingly lengthy finish.

Vinha Pan Bairrada Baga 2015

N: You might think you’re in N . Italy. Think Ghemme.
It’s dirty all right, tobacco, cigar box, smoked wood, black olives. Some cocoa.
P: Medium bodied, crunchy, bracing acidity!, very tactile, mouth filling but fleeting. Almost that cherry thing.mineral.
Single vineyard Baga expression, could age for yrs.

My first Ghemme Nebbiolo! Once it opened up it was like a rustic tomato sauce loaded up with dried oregano, almost sweet. Grippy but soft tannins. Ripe cherry and earth. Delicious. — a year ago

Wow! It’s like a time capsule from the past. "A Hard Day's Night," the Beatles' first feature film, was released in Italy on July 10, 1964; one can imagine the winemakers and winery staff catching a matinee and returning back to complete this vintage!

Ghemme ai Livelli Nebbiolo 2015

Delectable Wine
9.3

Mazzoni's 2015 Ghemme Ai Livelli is gorgeous. Floral and savory notes infuse the bouquet with notable presence. Light on its feet, yet wonderfully layered, the 2015 is super expressive right out of the gate. There's quite a bit of complexity, while the tannins are nicely mellowed by time. That makes for an incredibly appealing wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2022)

Vigna Cavenago Riserva Ghemme Nebbiolo Vespolina 2015

A young beast.

Nose is cherry flower. As it opens rose petals.

Palate is lean cherry fruit. Some cherry licorice.

Needs 5 years. Or a long decant.

Ghemme Nebbiolo 2020

Nice Nebbiolo from ghemme. Didn’t change a ton from night 1 to night 2 which mostly makes me feel that this needs several more years to really come into its own. The nose is excellent - classic nebbiolo bouquet, though somehow both slightly darker and more floral than expected. It’s all there on the palate including the great acid but the tannins are quite unresolved. — a year ago

Yarra Valley Nebbiolo 2021

Lovely Aussi expression of this grape. Lively flavors and smooth in it’s transitions particularly for a wine so young. Closer to a Ghemme than a Barola. Earthy, Raspberry, rose petal, dried fruit, hazelnut. Very approachable young as it is not overly tannic or acidic. — 3 years ago

I’ve tasted this makers Ghemme before, so u shouldn’t be surprised how much I love this. Yet I still exalt over it’s soulful expression, all earthy & rust iron. And the’16 Italian vintage keeps on giving…. — 3 years ago

Pratogrande Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo 2016

Bright fresh cherry 100% Nebbiolo sipper from Ghemme + Gattinara + surrounding areas. Typically rustic, but not annoyingly so like some other area producers... some forest floor and barnyard, but balanced with violets and star anise and rhubarb. Very enjoyable. — 6 years ago
