Day 2 of Napa in the books!
Quick lunch with my friend Jason Moore of Modus Operandi Cellars. He was Weston’s (of Montagu Wines) mentor and is a fellow Texan! He submitted his wines for review for the very first time last year after 10+yrs, and received multiple 92-97pt wines. This SB is so much better than expected...tropical and explosive. Not quite on Arkenstone or Aesthete SB level, but the richness and round texture are very similar. Kiwi, stone fruit, nectarine and a melon/cantaloupe finish. If you enjoy big style SB, not sure there is a better Napa Valley one at $40. — 7 years ago

Say hello to my first Texan wine.
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Gorgeous nose of blueberries, cooked plums, violets, light oak, vanilla, wildflowers, light herbs, spices, tobacco and black pepper.
Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, vinaigrette, coffee, light oak, vanilla, earth, licorice, spices and black pepper.
Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and peppercorn.
This is a nice surprise. This GSM blend is drinking very nicely now. Showing a great nose with a nice mouthfeel. Tangy and interesting. Soft and rich.
Good right out of the bottle and a good wine to have all by itself, or with food. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.
Spicy, fruit forward and interesting. A nice porch wine that I paired with cheeses and crackers.
A blend of 60% Mourvedre, 36% Syrah and 4% Grenache. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months.
14% alcohol by volume.
90 points.

This is silly - funky natty pet-nat rose from right here in Texas. Loads of raspberry, mulled berries, spice, and cream. Delicious and gulpable. Off-dry. I’ll tell ya what - this is the first Texan winery to really turn my head and catch my attention.. their whole lineup was solid. Definitely worth checking out, but this was the star. — 8 years ago
Annual family tradition of going to the Gaylord Resort for a night, seeing the Christmas decorations, eating at Bob’s, and going to the ICE! exhibit. Always a weekend to look forward to! (And yes, that bottom right photo is a sleigh, Santa and reindeer all carved from ice!)
Bob’s had this bottle of Jordan for $95...that’s a difficult deal to turn down. Lovely nose of violets and cherry liqueur. Jasmine too. First bottle wasn’t as good as the second, but we were able to decant the 2nd and this wine needed at least 45mins. Great color and texture. Blackberries, blueberries, fig, bing cherries. Balanced. — 9 years ago

More Texan vino courtesy of @Brendan Devine. Poured a lovely flowery red color and more than delivered for a pairing with Germantown’s finest ‘za. — 5 years ago

Okay, I'm Texan, and an untrained wine hooligan, so forgive me when I say that when I put my nose in this glass I smelled sweet, smoky barbeque, but in a good way! It was hard to smell anything else, but I think I picked up cherry, blackberry and toasted oak (duh?). Silky smooth on the tongue, with dark berries and vanilla. I really like this one. I can't wait to make my family eat it with pork ribs smothered in sweet BBQ sauce. Yes to this. Cheers. — 5 years ago

A very good companion to smoky, salty Texan bbq — 7 years ago
@delectable This is a Texan, not a Californian; Texas High Plains AVA to be exact. I'm speechless after this effort... insane character and uniqueness. Has it's own definitive style without losing the soul of Sauvignon Blanc. This is straight up radiating with energy.
My girl wanted in on this review. She's got a way with words that is one in a million 😜 So, here is our combined effort:
"Now featuring: The Green Elixir. Wisps of kiwi swiftly enter the nasal passage on command. Over-ripened sweet cantaloupe charges through leaping over fresh Bosc pears. Similar to walking through a field of freshly cut grass on a midsummer Sunday morning. Upon walking through the renewed grass, you will come across loamy soil, enveloped with sandy silt. Dandelions magically pop up along the adventurous route dancing lazily in the breeze.
Taste consistently bathes, not lingers, but bathes on the palate. Anyone ever kiss a lime rind? Experience it now with The Green Elixir. Sour, yet makes you yearn for more. Granny Smith apples frolic throughout the tastebuds. Heading towards the end of our adventure, straw begins to make an appearance and wants to join in the fun. At the peak of the completion of our endeavor, a special herb comes out to play. Lemon Basil pleasantly surprises you to make sure your finale is more than grand.
*Medium-plus acidity and Medium-minus body

A gifted bottle by a fellow Texan @Shay Aldriedge of which I'm thankful for your willingness to share this inaugural vintage. 100% Texas Tempranillo. One of the most impressive Texas offerings I've had. Dark and dense in the glass. Oak and plum on the nose. Somewhat austere but show promise in the future. Licorice, menthol and mineral run the entire palate. On the finish a get this smoked element mixed with dark cherry. I look forward to what they have to offer in the years to come. Thank you Shay for gifting this. — 9 years ago

💫 Crisp. Dry. Unapologetically Texan.
This rosé walks the line between porch pounder and pink power suit. Pale salmon in the glass with clean, lean fruit—think strawberry skin, watermelon rind, and a whiff of West Texas wind. Bone dry but bright, with just enough acidity to cut through BBQ or stand solo at golden hour.
Finishes clean, slightly herbal, and refreshingly grown-up. No sugar, no fluff—just cowboy boots in a ballet class.
