One of the Hunter Valleys premium Cuvees honouring the legendary Maurice O’Shea. Very dark ruby - impenetrable in colour. Aromatics of sweet earth - very earthy - plum, red berry and dark chocolate - very Hunter Valley. Amazingly strong for a 27 year old wine. Very Rich, full bodied and concentrated for a Hunter Valley wine. I’ve commented on this before that there was a period of 10 plus years where HV wines were made to imitate South Australian wines - ripe and full bodied. This wine represents that style. Thankfully the current style is more medium bodied but nevertheless this is an outstanding wine with at least 10 plus years left in it. — a month ago

Crisp acidity, gorgeous floral, peach aroma with elderflower, orange blossom, tangerine, Meyer lemon, green apple, ripe pear, chalk, flint, crushed fresh herbs (thyme and sage) and a hint of oaky vanilla. After my cat pee NZ wine last week, I needed reassurance. This is reassuring. Gorgeous nose of gooseberry and crushed limestone. Only a faintly herbal whiff, at a level that adds complexity. Minerally and intense in the mouth. Soft-textured. Just enough acidity to keep it fresh. Bone dry, and the slightest bitterish note in the tail end. Love it. — 2 months ago

From a lieu dit surrounded by Gevrey. Definitely young but with a couple hour decant quite enjoyable and accessible. Tons of sweet cherry on the nose; aromatically really quite intense. Full on the palate, get more tannin than I was expecting, but very nicely balanced by a lot of acid. Enjoyed it with a roast chicken provencal but could have stood up to red meat too. Nice qpr at ~$30. Note this is not the “cuvee unique”, which apparently a 100% new oak bottling - this is the regular which is 85% old. — 6 years ago
