Elysian Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

The last time I had this was at The French Laundry trying to convince someone to support a nonprofit I love. The subsequent gift was generous but, somehow, underwhelming. This wine is like that. A great vintage, a great vineyard, in great hands, but it had so much more potential. I’m not whining about a 97-point wine; I’m lucky to enjoy it. But it could’ve been even more. — a month ago

Big & bold. Ripe dark fruit, spice, etc…Evolved yet still developing. Really loved the complex tertiary flavors starting to appear. One complaint: WHOPPING 14.7%! — 2 months ago

A little more beauty & fine elegance over the 2020.

Nose shows nice ripe, dark core fruits with fresh dark floral and spice.

The palate shows; lush mouthfeel with thick, ripe M+ tannins, blackberries, black raspberries, black raspberries, dark cherries, plum, creamy raspberries & purple fruits, fresh & dry tobacco, used raw leather, nice mid level baking spices, crushed, dry limestone, dry top soil, mix of some fresh & dry herbs, excellent level of dark spice-not overdone, anise, caramel, milk & dark chocolate, dark & red flowers framed in liquid violets, excellent round acidity with a velvety, lush, elegant finish that is very well balanced, structured that lasts 90 seconds.

Drinking very well right now (2024). Critics said to drink up but I found it still having strong fruit balancing the dirt. Reminded me of some lovely aged Bordeaux I've had in the past. I'd enjoy now or over the next few years if you're lucky enough to have any bottles. Cheers! — a month ago

This is being served well chilled.

The nose shows bright fruits with a core of dark currants, dark spice and really beautiful florals.

The fruits are perfectly ripe & juicy; blackberries, black plum, black raspberries, dark cherries, raspberries on the palate edges, purple fruit blend, dry tobacco & leather, dry barrel shavings, lead pencil, dry crushed rocks, bold, drier M+ tannins, black coffee, anise to black licorice, dark chocolate, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, dry herbs, limestone marl, bright fresh and a little withering, dark, red, & purple flowers, very nice acidity and a fresh that is well; tensioned, structured, balanced, elegant that last 90 seconds and lands on dry tannins & earth.

Fresh honeycrisp apple, pear, melon and lemon zest. Hint of petrol with nice floral notes as well. Medium minus body and medium plus acid. My favorite Finger Lakes Riesling so far! — 2 months ago

Pretty nose of rose and violets, soft blue and red fruits, touch of cocoa, hint of fresh herbs, velvet in the mouth, smooth and lively grippy tannins that makes you want to go back for more, black rock and soil. — 4 months ago
