Heimbourg Riesling 2018

Whole bunches from @Heimbourg, natural yeast and aging for 18 mo in alsacian oak; clear greenish-yellow color with some viscosity; nose of red and yellow citrus, quince, peaches, wax, honey, and a smoking minerality; powerful yet elegant taste with a minor spritziness, peach, red grapefruit, and pineapple with medium acids and low alcohol. Oliver is a veritable wizard and I love of this wine. — 9 days ago

Alsace Pinot Gris 2019

Mid yellow in colour. Aromas of yellow flowers and honey. The palate is luscious with pear and ripe apple - good concentration with medium plus intensity and low acid. Finishes dry. First of 6 recently bought. Also excellent value/QPR. — a month ago

@Scott Rose It’s a lovely Gris isn’t Scott. I also bought 6 of their Pinot Blanc from the 2019 vintage. Yet to try. Both good value.

Lucky ducky. I rarely see them repped/available here in San Diego, CA. Can taste the Pinot Blanc now along with the (non-dessert styled) Muscat and various regular/late harvest Gewürz and Ries offerings. So underrated...at least in California.

Grrr...been in a Bordeaux mood lately but was really really missing DZH. Your post helped/didn't help. Need to divert some juice acquisition energy into DZH procuring. Especially their lower-end stuff. Such tremendous value.

Outstanding. Complex and intense flavours of honeysuckle, ripe red pears, wax and cinnamon. Could age for many more. — 14 days ago

Calcaire Alsace Pinot Gris

Anyone who thinks Pinot Gris is a lame apple-flavored substitute for white wine needs to try this. Very fragrant with aromas of peaches, apricots, pear, petrol, and to no one's surprise, calcareous minerals. Background notes of baking spices and honey. Oily, acidic finish characteristic of Alsatian whites. It's also unfair to rate this against the world's finest Rieslings and Chardonnays, so I completely disagree with those who give it a mere 89-91. I also think with age, this would skyrocket to a 95+ wine. — 2 months ago

Alsace Pinot Blanc 2019

Aromas of poached pears, verging on tropical fruits. The palate is luscious and delicious of medium plus intensity. A blend of Pinot Blanc (35%) and Auxerrois (65%). The latter originates from the Pinot Blanc (just like Chardonnay) but they are quite different. Auxerrois has less acidity, ripens to a higher alcohol level and is more aromatic than Pinot Blanc They complement each other well. This wine is a real crowd pleaser and excellent value. Finishes dry. — a month ago

Jelly again. Just haven’t seen any DZH wine in San Diego in ages. Hurts because it’s arguably my fave winery in la monde.

@Scott Rose I couldn’t get over the great value as well Scott. This was only $23.40 AUD. This would go down well as an introductory tipple at a party.

Goldert (Gueberschwihr) Grand Cru Muscat 2005

2011 is still a baby, showing primary varietal character atop a dry, racy, mineral frame. 2005 is mature, no longer showing any Muscat character, just the Goldert minerality with attractive oxidative development (but seems to be higher RS) — 21 days ago

Alsace Riesling 2018

2018 Turckheim Reisling. High minerality, medium to low acid, slightly hotter than 11.5%ABV would suggest. Notes of lemon, melon, maybe grapefruit or kiwi. Has some barrel-adjacent flavours that took me by surprise. Can’t believe I’m saying this about an Alsace, but this could maybe use some more age to round out. — a month ago
