This Australian Shiraz is produced from the collaboration between Terlato and Michel Chapoutier. The result, based on the unique Malakoff vineyard, is indeed very noteworthy. A deep dark 100% Shiraz, with flavours of berry/blackberry fruit, some chocolate, some wood, with very smooth tannines, being a very concentrated wine. This will eadily last for another decade! — 6 years ago
100% Syrah. Nice red color with enticing aromas of blackberry and pepper. Broad on the palate with a good balance of tannins, likely at its peak. Quite enjoyable. — 7 years ago
Alsace’s Domaine Schieferkopf is Michel Chapoutier’s joint venture with four friends devoted to producing white wine from the Rhine Valley. It’s the only venture where Chapoutier works with Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Sylvaner.
Schieferkopf means slate topped and its vineyards are situated on steep slopes near the village of Bernardvillé and on the only strip of blue schist in Alsace. Like all Chapoutier estates, it is managed under organic and biodynamic principles.
If Robert Parker liked rocks more than fruit he would call the 2012 Via Saint-Jacques Riesling a high octane, full throttle, hedonistic, ROCK-bomb. Rocks for days and charged with acidity. Beyond the rocks, there’s smoke, pineapple, lime, citrus peel, peach skin, and some secondary almond.
Another excellent example of dry Riesling and one that would appeal to many a Sauvignon Blanc drinker. I genuinely feel bad for all those people who don’t drink Riesling because they still think it’s only a sweet wine. — 8 years ago
History of Chapoutier family dates back to the early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate & famous l’Hermitage vineyards. Medium Ruby with aromas of rich red/black fruits and spice, 16 months in 25% new French oak. On the palate raspberry, cherry & black currant flavors with notes of oak. Soft dusty tannins, well balanced ending with fruit, spice and cedar. Very nice! I wouldn’t age long, great now! — 4 years ago
Heavy and smooth. No bite whatsoever. — 5 years ago
A balanced if a bit timid wine that would absolutely shine when enjoyed with a light seafood dish. 100% Marsanne. — 7 years ago
Chapoutier family dates back to the early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate and some vineyards in the now famous village of Tain l’Hermitage in Northern Rhône Valley. Ripe red berry fruit aromas. On the palate, this wine displays cherry and blackberry fruit with earthy notes, and a bit of crushed rock. Tannins are soft and savory, good balance, ending with a lingering mineral finish. Nice! — 7 years ago

Le mere Poulard - Mont Saint Michel. Scallop omelette and poulet supreme. Very good paring. Enjoyed very much. — 4 years ago
Tasting with Chapoutier. Almond, marzipan, pineapple, white flowers on the nose. So young that Michel said that it’s more green almond dominated for now - as it ages will be more roasted almond. Good stuff but way too young. — 5 years ago

Alluring yellow fruit and citrus aromas with some minerality that opens to well-balanced and juicy flavors on the tongue. A bit of a bite on the finish. Best served chilled. — 7 years ago
History of Chapoutier family dates back to early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate & famous l’Hermitage vineyards. Deep Purple (with a little smoke on the water), 100% Grenache with aromas of dark fruit and complex exotic spice. Plum, berry & current flavors with nutty tobacco develops into sweet licorice. Tannins a bit grippy but will soften, lingering, balance ending with fruit and spice. Nice!

The nose was seductive and complex. The palate felt much leaner than the nose eluded to. No less, the palate was balanced and full of character with racy acidity and firm tannins. Needs time. #chapoutier #hermitage #syrah #rhonevalley #ctbucklinwine — 9 years ago

Pulled from my cellar, Ferraton’s 2015 Cornas “Le Grands Muriers” pours a sort of violet/garnet color with a transparent core. Medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is developing with notes of dark bramble fruits, some blue fruits, purple flowers, Herbs de Provence, bacon fat, a touch of the animal, some olive tapenade and a kiss of baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium, bordering on medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Long, with a delicious rocky mineral finish. Whatever Michel Chapoutier is doing seems to be working. These wines from Ferraton rarely miss anymore and are absolute sleepers when it comes to value for money. This bottle of 2015 is drinking beautifully right now on the pop and pour and will continue to do so for the next 10+ easy. — 3 years ago
