Sur Echalas Vineyard Grenache 2013

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish /brick rim.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Very dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing red and black fruits with light wood, spices, barnyard, blood, dried meats, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, earth, herbs, peppercorn and licorice.

Nice finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This Single Vineyard Grenache from Walla Walla Valley is very stinky and austere on the nose.

Complex and very interesting, but not what I expected at all. Feels more like an old world wine.

Wine Advocate 95 points. Wine Spectator 94 points. Wine Enthusiasts 94 points.

I had a recent vintage a couple of years ago and it showed much better. Might just be this particular bottle, or it could be past its prime by now.

A good quality wine and still very drinkable.

13.2% alcohol by volume.

Sorella Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

Andrew Will’s top selection, I was stunned at how good this was.

This was consumed from bottle over the course of about four hours. Dark purple at the core, with just a touch of red starting to grow around the rim. The first hour this was open, it seemed disjointed as it had a pronounced herbal twang and sawdust note. Hours 2-4 this totally blossomed and became one of the best WA state cabs I’ve ever had, especially at the price. This leans to the dark fruit side of the spectrum (blackberry, black currant) highlighted by streaks of bright/high toned red fruits. Beautiful nose of tobacco, dark chocolate and mocha to go along with the fruit. Mid palate has a beautiful mineral/and scorched black cherry core and finishes with silky tannins. Extremely well balanced and seems like it’s nearing the top of its potential.

Block Three Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a delicious one from California.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Nice nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, cedar, leather, vanilla, spices, tobacco, chocolates, coffee, light earth, liquorice and black pepper.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, figs, vanilla, cedar, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, light vegetables and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This is delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Lake County in California. Fruit forward with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.

Still young and would be better in a few years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.

Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. I gave it 90 minutes to open up and show the tannins.

Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a nice piece of steak. Very tasty.

A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels. A small production of 150 cases.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

Dark, inky color - lot of oak coming through on the nose and on the palette. Beautiful now but still so young. Oak needs to integrate further. — 3 years ago

Red Hills Lake County Petit Verdot 2019

Deep purple in color with a tiny purple rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, oak, light vanilla, tobacco leaf, earth, dark chocolates, black pepper and Mediterranean spices.

Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with currants, plums, cherries, sweet raspberries, spices, cedar, chocolates, tobacco leaf, licorice, herbs and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Petit Verdot from Lake County in California. Big, bold and spicy. Feels like a Napa Petite Sirah.

Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel and a teeth staining color.

The mix of black and red fruits is very interesting. Tangy and rich.

Good right out of the bottle and better with airtime. Drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age in the next 5 to 7 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and good with food.

Delectable Wine
9.3

Bright dark red. Very pure, varietally accurate aromas of raspberry, smoked meat, black olive tapenade, herbs and minerals. Enters the mouth saline and intense, then strong soil-driven olive tapenade, dark raspberry and smoked meat take over the palate. This concentrated, salty wine boasts impressive thickness but also just enough fresh balancing fruit to leaven its high-pH feel. No shortage of sweetness here. Finishes with a firm dusting of tannins, lingering pepper, meat and smoke notes and no rough edges. (13.6% alcohol) (Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, December 2020) — 6 years ago
