Rovittello Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese 2012

I was looking for the Contessa but couldn’t find it in the cellar so ended up with the Rovittello which I had only 9 weeks ago in November 2020. A savoury cherry nose with that Etna minerality - earthy and touch of volcanic dust. A light to medium weight palate. The finest of sandy tannins - oak almost totally integrated. An excellent wine with lamb mince. Bought at the winery several years ago on our Sicilian trip. Seems like a lifetime ago. — 9 months ago

Serra della Contessa Etna Rosso Nerello Blend 2013

This was such an enjoyable wine with pasta at home. I had bought the 2012 vintage from the cellar door of both single Cuvées, Rovitello and Contessa and had found them light weight and not worth the money but this 2013 Contessa was wonderful and meant that I might seek out Benanti again in the future. This is savoury cherry earthy smoky herbal and mineral but richer more medium bodied on the palate than the elegant 2012. Totally delicious - fruit mineral and earth - a wonderful Etna Rosso. — 2 months ago

Mille e Una Notte Contessa Entellina Nero d'Avola 2016

Delectable Wine
9.3

A captivating display of blackberry, plum, grilled herbs, cedar dust and balsamic spice wafts up from the 2016 Mille e una Notte. It’s silky in texture and polished in feel, offering ripe black fruits lifted by cooling minerality. This remains tightly wound up in its youthful state, as a fine coating of sweet tannin settles in to create a structured finale, with pretty purple-tinged florals and hints of licorice lingering long. The 2016 may be one of the most refined expressions of Mille e Una Notte that I’ve ever tasted, but it will need some time to show its best. This is composed primarily of Nero D'Avola, Petit Verdot and Syrah, which is expertly refined in new barriques for 14 months. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2021)
