Terre di San Leonardo is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (40%), and Carmenere (10%), run by the Gonzaga family since its inception in 1724. Wine is fermented with ambient yeasts in concrete tanks and 20% is aged in French oak barrels. Ruby with aromas ripe red fruits and floral notes. On the palate flavors of rich plum and blackberry with herb, light spice and slight earthy notes. Medium+ finish, fine soft tannins, ending with fruit, floral and earthy mineral character. Tremendous value! — 4 years ago
Wow. We’ve been drinking Grenache blends- the 2017 is simply wonderful. Silly and smooth... no oak as it was fermented in concrete tanks. ‘Les Darons’ an affectionate expression for The Parents! Old vines Rock!!! — 6 years ago
Lemon and lime on the nose, floral with a touch of honey and melon.
Big acid that dances on the back of your palette.

Riesling- honey, crisp apple. Big acid that can handle spices of thanksgiving. Works well with the flavors working against it.
Gewurztraminer
Pinot Blanc
Pinot Gris

This is a full-throttle unfiltered SB 😅 Very hazy and cloudy with plenty of particles of all shapes & sizes floating around. Loads of pineapple, lychee, peach, and honeysuckle on the nose and palate with a lovely acidity, all of which conjures up images of lawn parties & beach sunsets. — 7 years ago

Aged in concrete so no oak infusion. Earthy and mineral forward. Semi dry. Moderate body. — 4 years ago

Cherry, raisin, leather on the nose. Garnet color, leggy, pink peppercorns, underripe blackberry, hasn’t fully opened up. Leather, biting into a pencil, bone dry. I’m preparing to have pasta with this - I feel this is sweater wine. Jazz on a Saturday afternoon. Fire pit with crusty bread and grilling meats. Nutty creamy cheese or dark chocolate and berries. This is not at all a whimsical wine- no hammock - a chaise. But a deep chuckle would suit it very well. — 7 years ago
Excellent Sauvignon Blanc. Maybe the bezt I've had. — 3 years ago
Aroma of flinty strawberries. Tart strawberries berries upfront. Watermelon comes into play in the middle. Then a quick bone dry finish. — 3 years ago
Delicious. Complex but smooth. Medium tannin. — 5 years ago
An excellent blend of 75 % Cabernet and 25% Syrah. It went well with the ribeye steak at California Pizza Kitchen. Many thanks to Chris and Ron for bringing it to our vacation in Solana Beach. — 5 years ago
The Seasonal Grand Opening of the D&S Lounge. That’s going to require some BSR to celebrate.
As well, going to detail notes of this with my new Riedel Vintage Sommelier flutes, center picture. I’ve been wanting to write notes on this Champange in the new flutes as I wanted to do it one I am very well acquainted. As @Paul T- Huntington Beach & @Severn Goodwin have pointed out the many times I have posted it.
The nose is definitely more vibrant. Tangerines lead where they haven’t in my previous notes now using the new flutes. More pink rose petals, blood orange, pink grapefruit, leaner; strawberries, watermelon, warmed, creamed raspberries, apricots & cherries, liqueured marmalade, hints of scorched rhubarb, lemon/lime aid, chalky powder, delicate, grey volcanics, sweet, sea spray, bread dough, baguette crust, touch of brown sugar/molasses light, haunting, dry herbs, limestone and bouquet of; white, red, pink & orange roses.
The body is round with some gummy or gluiness. Everything about the mouthfeel is more delicate and softer. The bubbles smaller & more refined. Pink rose petals, blood orange, pink grapefruit, leaner; strawberries, watermelon, warmed, creamed raspberries, apricots & cherries, liqueured marmalade, hints of scorched rhubarb, almost a date presence on the long set, chalky powder, delicate, grey volcanics, sweet, sea spray, lighter intensity of white spices but, still has the heat & palate penetration, bread dough, baguette crust, touch of brown sugar/molasses light, haunting, dry herbs, limestone and bouquet of; white, red, pink & orange roses. The acidity is all fresh & lively with this cuvée. But, even that seems better. The finish is as always; well knitted & balanced, polished, fresh, persistent and never disappoints.

I think thats military terminology @Severn Goodwin scorched Rhubarb policy. I just saw it on the history channelMedium ruby. More soil character than most of the other Borghetto wines in this range- mushroom and potting soil notes coming through. Wet concrete aroma and stronger sense of minerality as well. Again it’s a tart red fruit profile of pomegranate, peppermint candy, orange rind and menthol. Mid palate provides the necessary warm spice character and sweet tannins that turn much harder and more bitter on the finish. This will need more time to settle down and develop its fruit, but very complex and showing some great potential. — 8 years ago
