J.L. Vergnon

Conversation Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Merry Christmas to the entire Delectable community! Thankful to know such a committed and knowledgeable bunch of wine geeks.

Paired with waffles... Xmas breakfast for dinner. The Vergnon Conversation was crisp with lime zest & seashells. Very mineral character. Salty. Lacking fruit and a little austere but not in a bad way. Delicious.

@Severn Goodwin presents took so long we skipped breakfast and before we knew it it was too late to cook the elaborate meal we’d planned. This ended up being better anyways :)

@Severn Goodwin How was this holding up from the excellent 1986 vintage?

@Bob McDonald It was very strong last night, still have some left, if it's still worthy I'll add some actual notes.

Ridge Vineyards

Ponzo Vineyard Zinfandel Blend 2016

A blend of 97% Zin and 3% Petite Sirah, dark Ruby with purple edges. Ridge's history begins in 1885, when Osea Perrone, a doctor and member of San Fran’s Italian community, bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge and planted vines. Aromas of rich dark fruits with herb spice notes. On the palate cherry and raspberry flavors with some vanilla oak and pepper spice. Firm yet soft tannins, medium finish, good mouthfeel ending with spicy fruit character. Nice! — 5 years ago

Doubleback

Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

We toasted the old Year with Doubleback’s 2014 Cab. Signed by both Drew Bledsoe and the wine maker. Dusty leather came to mind. Deep dark earthy flavors. However, they didn’t transition into a multi-layer complexity. Also the finish was not as intense and grippy as I had hoped for. So contrary to our 2019. Here at the end of the year where Tammy is concluding her mayor tenure after 16 years and 25 years of service to the community and the City. She received overwhelming gratitude and love from folks from all walks of life who felt she had impacted their life for the better. Reflecting back at the honoring we received at Capital Church (my first standing ovation I have received in my life ...it pays to hangout with the big wig 😄), the heart warming, full of grace and gratitude dinner with the Stake Presidents. The emotional, caring, loving, tears and laughter farewell event with the City directors and employees and finally, the 250 community stakeholders, friends and family joining us at the Mayor Tammy farewell dinner at Scentsy. What a grand finale. Cheers 2019! You have been fantastic and your finish will linger forever!!! — 5 years ago

What a great description of the wine AND my last month in office. We love a great cab, love Walla Walla wines, and love Drew Bledsoe who was quarterback at our beloved WSU. It was contrary to our amazing 2019 - memorable, some mystic, full concert! However, it set our palette for continuing to taste, discover, and always try something new. Cheers to 2020 and new adventures with the best partner to live life with!

Post House

Missing Virgin Red Blend 2018

Post House Cellars derives its name from the small Post Office used to serve the local missionary community of Raithby, now a winery office and residence. Name Missing Virgin refers to printing error on Virgin Island stamp, virgin figure was omitted. Blend of 70% Pinotage & 30% Petit Verdot, deep Ruby with purple hues, aromas of fruit and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blueberry and cinnamon with notes of wet earth. Medium+ finish, dusty fine tannins, ending with fruit, spice and earthy notes. — 2 years ago

Marc Hébrart

Special Club Brut 1er Cru Champagne Blend 2013

Happy New Year to the Delectable community! Marc Hebrart is one of my favorite RM’s and this Special Club bottling paired with black-eyed peas ended up being a fantastic way to start the New Year. Initially fresh sliced Asian pears on the pop and pour but as this warmed and received air, it became super complex with baked apples, brioche, white peach, pineapple, waxy red fruit (raspberries) and the smell of a fresh, brand new pair of sneakers. On the palate, this was full of bright lime, meringue. Minerals. Slightly nutty? Crisp. Acid is high. Finish is long. Very long. Sublime. Disgorged December 2017 — 5 years ago

Château Coutet

Chartreuse de Coutet Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2011

Quite consistent with my notes from ~6 months ago:

Nose has over-ripe apricot, almond oil, marzipan, meringue cookie and cold butter.
Palate has warmed apricot pie with extra flakey, buttery crust, sweet sand, white flower honey and mango.

Admittedly I love Sauternes and have many bottles, yet it's a rarity on opening and posting to the Community. We paired this bottle with a hard, smoked goat cheese from a local, Hudson valley producer, a solid match of sweet and salty.
