Colgin 2012

Kosta Browne

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2012

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium intensity.

Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, light oak, spices, chocolates, dark coffee and peppercorn.

Long finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley. Complex with a soft mouthfeel. Elegant and fruit forward. Drinking at its peak right now, and a little metallic on the nose.

Robert Parker 93 points. Wine Spectator 92 points.

This 14 year old Pinot Noir is a good sipping wine, that also paired nicely with food.

14.6% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

We had the 2012 Vintage on 7/12-13/25. With 13 Years of aging, all the tannins have been smoothed out. Tastes of blueberry, plum, leather and spice. Medium to full bodied. Still fruit forward. Very good — a year ago

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Opened up this beauty for Christmas dinner. Only needed to decant for about 20 min or so and paired well with beef tenderloin. Believe that the 2012 vintage is very drinkable now but could handle more years in the cellar. Well done #groth — 4 years ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2012

Great vintage for Jamet, expressive nose, rich with good balance showing lots of dark cherry, bacon fat, licorice, mineral, menthol, olive, graphite & violet. A vintage you can enjoy now but can be cellared for many years. — 5 years ago

40th Anniversary Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

What was meant to be a casual dinner with friends over homemade BLTs ended up turning into a full-blown wine dinner.
.
Eager to see how this develops over the years. As it stands now it’s syrupy with cloves, figs, molasses, and is pretty extracted. I think the potential is there but it’s going to take some time for it to mature and formulate.

Seghesio Family Vineyards

Sonoma County Zinfandel 2012

2012. The last of the Seghesio Sonoma County Zinfandel vertical (2010/2011/2012) that made the journey east several years ago, and it may have aged the best of the three vintages. Paired great with homemade eggplant parmigiana. Go Big Red wine! — 3 years ago

This 2012 left bank blend is, well, very Bordeaux-like but unmistakably Napa.
The nose is regal yet intense, with blackberry, cassis, cocoa, cigar box, dry mushroom, baking spices, and hint of fresh herbs. Harmonious palate riding on the medium-to-full body. Terrific balance with sense of authoritative Napa cab power. Silky fully integrated tannins.
One of the most elegant entry-level Napa cabs I’ve tasted.

Special Selection Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

I haven’t had this wine in a long time, but the first sip reminded me why I liked it and probably purchased in the first place. The 2012 is in a great place right now and will probably remain there for the next decade +. Lots of dark fruits but nicely balanced with a hint of tartness that gives this a rounded flavor profile. Very enjoyable. — 10 months ago

I bought some corked bottles and some screw cap bottles. This is for the corked one. At 13 years old it’s tasting great! I’m expecting the screw caps to be just as good. — a year ago

Bodega Catena Zapata

High Mountain Vines Mendoza Malbec 2012

Perfumed nose of violets plus blue and red fruits a note of red liquorice. On the medium weight plus palate , ripe plum and chocolate. Differs from Cabernet with no herbal bay leaf characters and softer tannins in this case but persistent. This is a perfect wine to have with steak, in this case T bone. The Argentinians worked this out ages ago. One of the 1001 wines where it is summed up succinctly - The hallmark of the Catena style is refinement and balance but with a big personality. These wines supercede the Malbecs from Cahors because the vineyards are planted between 780 metres and 1500 metres in the Andes. — 5 years ago

Bob, I love reading your wine notes.
If you ever get the chance to taste/buy Catena Malbec Argentino or Nicolas Catena Zapata (Cab Sauv with a little Malbec) enjoy these fantastic wines.

Thanks Jamie - very kind of you. Funny you mention the Argentino - I have a bottle of the 2008. I have a tasting note somewhere here I believe on a previous one. Also the Achaval Ferrer Finca Altamira 2011. Cheers.
