Champagne Diot-Legras

Sélection Brut Cramant Grand Cru Champagne Blend

9.3

Nose is yeasty, buttery and smells generous. Really inviting. Saline and iodine scents abound. Green apple skins and also a hard mineral background. Good grip and concentration and just the right amount of sugar that gives it a generous mouthfeel but doesn’t lose its grip. Pretty nice flavors of lemon curd, toast, butter and green apple. Good freshness and acidity along with fine mousse. Really fine for this level. Nice sap and complexity on the finish and some lime zest and green apple flesh and skins. Now with air the inner mouth sweet spices are so good. More elegant with air and a super salty finish. 9.3 now. — 2 months ago

Nose of wet earth, sweet mid season strawberry, spices, minerals, sweet ripe tomato, watermelon and iodine. Very harmonious aromas. A gamey element as well that adds intrigue. Palate is sappy and elegant with such refined mousse and silky flavors of strawberry and watermelon. With air the nose has soppy cherries now and just a deeper fruit expression overall. Really good acids but also it clearly needs air. Man, after some air the fruit has such remarkable clarity and really hits. — 2 months ago

Charalambos Lelektsoglou Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay

Will be better in a few years when the mousse quiets but it’s a lovely bottle now. Sweet ripe fruit in the mid palate. Wish I had more. Only 300 made. — 10 months ago

Apple and pear on the nose. Citrus. Just amazing. Carmel and toasty finish. Almost can’t add juice to it for my mimosa plan. — 7 years ago

Brut Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes Champagne Chardonnay 2008

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2008 Grand Cru VV pours a straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing, almost youthful and initially, extremely bright and vibrant; like a laser beam of acid and marzipan. After a couple of hours of air, this really became exceptional with tropical fruit, lemon, curd, brioche, and an enormous amount of minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry and acid is high as one would expect. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. A serious wine that needs time and, probably one of those champagnes that could use a decant. Better after 2028 and through 2043. Disgorged 2023. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass — 5 months ago

@Lyle Fass talk to me. I have one bottle of the 2010 in my cellar and that’s a vintage that rarely, if ever, gets any love

@Jay Kline I offered a few times and will offer a few again. It’s more advanced than the 08 by a hair and maybe a bit lusher but insane fruit and depth.

Sélection Brut Chardonnay Blend

Candied almonds, mascarpone, and chantilly cream. Vanilla bean highlights a creamy sweetness on the nose. Soft and smooth mouthfeel. Palate delivers bright pear, honeycomb apple and homemade pie crust. Super delicious. Finish over delivers. Makes me wonder why I don’t drink more champagne. 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir. Opened in memory of my grandfather who passed today. #garyveewineclub — 6 years ago
