Château Rivière Lacoste

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Expensive but worth it. This Bordeaux is just right now. Paradigmatic Pauillac with deep brooding flavor and bitter finish. Tannins are perfectly smooth. Perfect with steak or on its own while listening to music while contemplating the meaning of life. All of the leather, earth, and tar one can expect from a fine Pauillac and under $100. — 2 days ago

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Saint Guirons Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Cork came out in 3 pieces, but no cork pieces left in bottle. Color is still medium-red, very faint browning on edges, massive cedar and cigar box aromatics, some pencil lead as well shows on palate, medium-weight, lovely balance, long, lingering finish, great older Bordeaux. Purchased at release for a song ($125/case) still have 5 left, this is one of my all-time favorite Pauillacs in the “non-1st, non-super 2d” category, amazing juice!! — 4 months ago

I’m amazed you still have any left! I didn’t have the wherewithal to buy many 82s on release or as futures, but what little I didn’t last 10 years as delicious as they were from day 1.

@Tom Casagrande, I did buy a large slug of 1982s, and fortunately I stored them in a friend’s basement in Queens, so they were not easily accessible. And when we moved to California, I had them shipped out but they were stored in Napa, so a good hour drive with limited opening hours. That’s probably what saved the 5-7 cases of 1982s I have left from being consumed earlier. Cheers!!

Château de la Rivière

Les Sources Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Brought this back from the AMA wine cruise. Bouquet of spicy berries. Initial taste of dry dry berries that fades to an earthiness of leather and dry sour cherries. Definitely old world style. — 5 days ago

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

One of the better older Bordeaux I’ve had in quite some time. Absolutely at peak with so many layers. It outshined an ‘03 Grand Puy Lacoste (which showed thin), ‘03 Montelena (sadly corked), and an ‘03 BV Georges de LaTour (rich/sweet).

Absolutely on fire from pop, this 20yr old left bank Bordeaux showed none of the overripe/too hot characteristics of the vintage. Deep purple/black in the glass with no bricking. Full-bodied. Mocha, truffle, roasted blackberries and raspberries, graphite on the nose. Ripe (but not overly so) dark berries, plum, cassis with vanilla pipe tobacco and even some iron. Still a good bit of tannin on the finish. This shows as a “modern” style due to the warmth, but balanced. Wish I had more. Pop the corks and enjoy!

Bummer about the Montelena. I love Pontet-Canet. Great notes.
