Château Manon La Lagune

Château La Lagune

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2023

Fine wine. Round and soft, seemingly watery on the kid palate but it’s not. Good and intense finish. — 9 days ago

Moulin de la Lagune Haut-Médoc Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

2019 vintage. Second wine of La Lagune. Terrific value. I have no idea why the different label for the 2019 vintage. — 7 months ago

Great Northern Rhône. Expensive but actually worth it. — a year ago

Château La Tour de Mons

Margaux Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2020

2020 vintage. First vintage for the Perrodo family, who bought this estate from French Bank Crédit Agricole in late 2019. True to type elegant Margaux with the hallmark freshness of this great vintage. A solid effort, but definitely not in the same league as the excellent La Lagune 2020 tasted alongside. Terrific value though. An estate to watch. Abv. 14%. — 2 years ago

Château d'Armailhac

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

2020 vintage. Nose is classic Pauillac , with cassis and lead pencil. Juicy black fruit, with the freshness of the vintage, but the tannin is a bit rough, and it lacks a bit of length. Good, but seems to be outperformed by other estates at the same price point ( Pédesclaux, Lynch-Moussas, La Lagune to name just a few). Abv. 13%. — 4 months ago

La Maison Bleue Hermitage Syrah

This wine is rich and bold, but not in your face. It has been described as being incredibly sexy and full-bodied. I can’t disagree. This wine makes me want to learn more about the Northern Rhône wines.

Fact: Jaboulet Hermitage was purchased by Caroline Frey family in 2006 (the Frey family also owns Chateau La Lagune). I really love Chateau La Lagune.

And there is no doubt that this wine is best paired with Miles Davis Kind of Blue on the turntable. Prove me wrong.

I love Northern Rhône wines, and some of Jaboulet’s wines the last few releases have been on fire.

@Shay A agreed 💯! Only started dipping my toe in Northern Rhône and just amazed! South African Syrah as well!

Château Rauzan-Gassies

L'Orme Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. From 30 hectares in Haut-Medoc, owned by the Quié family ( also Rauzan-Gassies and Croizet-Bages). A fine effort, showing that the Quié family is finally serious about quality, after decades of mediocrity. Much more evolved in colour compared to the 2019 Moulin de La Lagune tasted alongside. Ripe, slightly jammy fruit. Serve slightly cold to keep the high alcohol ( 15% abv.) in check. — 5 months ago

Château Pédesclaux

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

2020 vintage. The heavy investments by the Lorenzetti family are paying off. The ugly duckling turned into a beautiful swan. Kudos to Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen, Manon Lorenzetti, and team. This impressive 2020 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and equal parts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Classy nose with blackcurrant, cedar wood and lead pencil. In the mouth, it is focused, with succulent layered black fruit, juicy acidity and haute couture tannins. Very long and fresh finish. Amazing value too. — a year ago

Château Giscours

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Velvety, almost creamy, seductive Margaux. Very nice, but outperformed by the excellent La Lagune 2019 tasted alongside. Abv. 13,5%. — 2 years ago
