The Vineyardist 2nd label.
This one surprised me by how much air it needed to open up. Had a splash on day 1 and immediately corked it back up for a day 2 decant. Definitely not an over extracted Cabernet just to please the masses. My ratings might be higher than others but I work these wines to get the best out of them.

Interesting note I found-

The Vineyardist is a Diamond Mountain property with a long history. In the late 19th century it was purchased by a Dutch shipping captain who planted vineyards and made wine. During prohibition the vineyards were replaced with nut and prune orchards. In 2000 the property was purchased by Dirk Fulton and Becky Kukkola, who began replanting some of the 80 acres to vineyards. — 8 months ago

Paid €45 for the bottle at Osteria Del Pavone. Marco was the wine captain and his recommendation was excellent! It was a delightful Chianti - rich and full!  we would get it again. Price was reasonable for a Restaurant.  — 2 years ago

Past notes apply, but let's go through the motions. Decanted for 45 minutes. Nose: Tobacco, pine needles, soil, and a cherry base. Deep ruby in color, medium plus bodied, medium plus alcohol, medium acidity. More red cherry emerges on the palate, and pipe tobacco... More precisely, my dad's Captain Black from the 1980s. Taste not quite as complex as the smell. Finish is medium. Tannins are perfectly centered. This just misses my 94 point threshold.

Hurricane stress relief ... literally drink this as the waters receded 😳 had bought it to go with a favorite childhood dish of mine country captain, which features some Indian flavors! But it went exceptionally well with this locally made ravioli I saved from the freezer when the power went out. And low and the behold the power came back on just as I pulled out the camp stove! Of course I was at a heightened emotional state but I did think of this drank quite well for the price point. Melon, white flowers & rocks! It was certainly comforting and did go great with the country captain too 😂 — 9 years ago

Old school natural wine
Niccolaini was the avant-garde of the movement without ever being in it himself.
I got told stories of a farm with no electricity perhaps a decade ago or so
Massa Vecchia is appreciated for all its labels and you can find out which one is your favourite
Personally i am not a rose drinker, but i knew i wasn't going to be disappointed here
This is more like a Valentini cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, but even more extract, i dare to say if you sell this wine for a red nobody would argue.
It's funky to start, it gives you cola and china and its fresh and fun, plus very long and mineral.
Quite earthy perhaps not a precise fruit to define, but real good altogether
For my understanding this is the last vintage made by Niccolaini' daughter in law as a winemaker and i keep a bottle of the next vintage..i am very curious to how he has come back to his captain seat. — 4 years ago
