Ghemme is my sentimental favorite of the Novarese DOCs. I had a really good one when I was in my last year of college and starting my wine journey. It generally is one of the heavier and, sometimes, earthier of the group. This one is very good. Still youthful, it takes time to open up, but slowly reveals dark cherry, mahogany furniture, crushed minerally gravel, and roasted meat scents. Medium full, it’s got concentrated and tight dark cherry fruit, very fine-grained but abundantly chalky tannins, and very nice acidity. No rush to drink this. Enjoy over the next 4-5 years, maybe longer. — 2 years ago
A very nice lighter-styled Nebbiolo dominant blend from the Novarese. Nose has crisp, macerated cherry and loads of freshly-cracked stone, along with a nice woodsy barrel cellar note. Zesty and direct in the mouth, it’s still got a little youthful angularity and tannin to resolve, and features crisp acids as well. Good with food now, better in 2. — 3 years ago

These are notes from my memory of last night. This was outstanding. Loads of dried cherry fruit and bright cracked stony/gravelly minerality. A very linear mouthfeel, with length, intensity, and focus favored over broadness. A great example drunk with my Novarese braised roast. — 6 months ago
