Canonica A Cerreto

Giovanni Canonica

Langhe Nebbiolo 2016

Beautiful deep transparent mid red. Fairly high pitches acidity, redcurrant and rosehip mixed with some darker fruit like blackcurrant. Not too crazy or untamed. Nice to try one of Canonica’s wines and would be keen to follow with a barolo. — a month ago

Vigneti Cerreto Barbera d'Alba 2015

What a rich, powerful Barbera. 2015 is fruity, but the underlying elegance places it in a higher category this grape. Delightful with a rustic rabbit dish. — a year ago

Masseria Venditti

Sannio Bianco 2015

Oxidative, port-like nose and showing a deep but bright golden color with orange hues. Making a striking first impression of freshly baked apple pie, complete with brown sugar, cinnamon and clove accents. Honey, almond, hazelnut, orange marmalade notes emerging but with a sense of freshness and lift. Very dry on the palate with moderate alcohol and med + viscosity, not at all heavy. Lean and supple on the mid palate, the wine is showing good movement and texture with some tannic grip which no doubt is the result of a skin maceration that probably lasted 2 or 3 days. 70 % Grieco di Castel Venere/30 % Cerreto. Good luck remembering that. Surprisingly fresh and vibrant for an orange wine. Worth seeking out. — 2 years ago

Liber Rosso Toscano 2011

Tastes good. Ethereal Sangiovese aroma, it settles down into a composed, harmonious and refined Chianti. It has no artificial superficiality that plagues most wines these days and offers the very essence of what good wine is about. — 2 years ago

Chianti Rùfina Sangiovese Blend 2009

Got this wine direct from the vineyard and love the memories from it. Caramel, rum and deep fruit flavors with a nice tannin finish — 4 years ago

Canto del Diavolo Toscana Red Wine 2011

Nice super Tuscan. Drank the 2011 vintage in 2020. Pared well with pasta dishes and steak. Smooth nice fruit. Because of the age it does need to breath for a while. — 3 months ago

Grinzane Cavour Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

2020/4/4-5 with Roman angello alla cacciatora in bianca disossato, roasted canola greens and sautéed morning glories, and grilled pork kashira, katsuo tataki, and wasabina salad. I wanted to revisit this since reading up on nebbiolo rose (of which this is 50%) in D’Agata’s books. The it opened a bit mute, with some smoke, tar and heat, but with time fruit both rich and bright and floral elements all emerged. There is juicy acidity, and a ton of tannin that rounded out with air. Better and more fragrant and integrated still on day 2. This was the best Grinzane yet - I am looking forward to more — 7 months ago
