Bday dinner with a at Burleigh court — 3 years ago
Hard to know which was the better - the view/ambience/restaurant or the wine. Let’s start with the former. Rick Shores, the restaurant is at Burleigh Heads on Queensland’s Gold Coast which used to be on the World Surfing Tour. I highly recommend this restaurant to my Northern Hemisphere Delectable friends if you are ever down under. Asian inspired and voted #2 restaurant in Queensland in 2018. Come at lunch time or 6.15pm in the evening as we did. The red duck curry was superb as was the Whole Snapper. The wine itself- Light to mid crimson in colour. Notes of forest floor and damp undergrowth with a touch of oak. Herbal notes. On the palate sweet and savoury with maraschino cherries and incredible length. Would love to see this in 5 plus years. A classy drop. — 6 years ago
A great district for quality Pinot Noir is the Adelaide Hills. A producer new to me - Georgie found on the menu at Rick Shores at Burleigh Heads. Also attracted by the Ashton Vineyard. Red fruits of strawberry and raspberry made in the natural style sourcing fruit from biodynamic vineyards at Gentle Folk - juicy and fresh. 50% whole bunch in the ferment. — 3 years ago
Almost a year since my first Joshua Cooper wine and probably at the same restaurant at Burleigh Heads. Unlike last year’s note, the Ray-Monde is made from fruit sourced from Gippsland, not their home base of Macedon Ranges. Mid Ruby in colour with noticeable whole bunch influence - a light peppery note. A stalky bunchy dried cherry perfume. This wine walks the line perfectly between fruit (red and black cherry) and savoury characters. 33 year old Joshua Cooper is almost considered a natural winemaker. The only thing he adds is sulphur dioxide. His wines are now featuring on some of the leading Restaurant Lists in Australia and @Ceccherini Cristiano has posted previously when he was a Sommelier in Melbourne. Worth seeking out but unlikely to be found away from Australia. Winner of the Young Winemaker of the year in 2020 by Gourmet Traveller wine magazine. — 3 years ago
Chablis 1er cru 2011 to patch up the gap between vin and palate; Batemans Bay rock oysters (I detest pacifics); followed by sashimi style marinated scallop, trout and king fish at @fishhouse Burleigh, Qld; seminal acidity and slaty texture with oyster/ salt/ iodine thing #fishhouse #chablis #rockoyster #fishgluttony — 10 years ago
