Oddly, a wine with Asian flavors. Strong baijiu aroma on the noise - wild. Bamboo shoot and tofu skin funk, hint of loquat syrup. A bit of savory cinnamon. Would be great with braised pork. — 6 months ago

“El Tamboril” is a tiny, north-facing, high altitude vineyard that produces Garnacha Tinta, Garnacha Blanco and Garnacha Gris. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2020 El Tamboril Tinto pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe, fresh Bing cherry, strawberry, red flowers, rocky earth, and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is a beautiful wine that balances power with elegance about as well as any. Drink now through 2040. — 3 months ago
One of my bottles from my annual WWC hosting. Part of a Grenache flight (including ‘19 Rotie Cellars “Big G”, ‘19 Saint-Damien Souteyrades Gigondas, ‘18 Andremily Grenache).
Picked this bottle up during a Seattle trip a few years ago at Rotie’s SoDo warehouse tasting room.
Similar in color to the Comando G La Bruja before it (light ruby red) but the aromatics couldn’t be more opposite. This is classical Rocks District with umami, savory, and distinct profile. Not sure how much whole cluster is here, but assuming some. Olive, spiced rhubarb, smoked meat on the nose. Light on the palate but the typical briny/iron/savory notes of the region come out. The Rocks funk fades the longer it’s open allowing a core of red fruit to become more prominent, but this is a savory wine through and through. Not as much depth or complexity as Cayuse’s GOK, but a nice wine if you enjoy the style. Drinking fine now. — a year ago
Naked and transparent, but stands firm with full confidence.
Lovely perfume of red fresh berries, fresh herbs and a red floral and peppermint-lift and orange blossom, over a platform of undergrowth
, nutmeg and mother rock.
Enters the room somewhat shy on the palate, but soon builds character and confidence over the palate. A stoney minerality and good acidity brings nerve and tension over an expansive mid palate with a strong fatigue through a rather long finish. Makeup is not needed on true beauty,
And yea it could easily be mistaken for A Gredos Garnacha from Bernabeleva, Comando G, Land and the likes.
Paired with chicken breast with ndjuja smeared under the skin, roast potatoes and Jerusalem artichokes, and a chicken- tarragon velouté
