Surprisingly I expected this to be tight. But it was ready. In fact a hint of pirate rum on the nose at open which blew off. Perhaps not much left in the tank here. But very pleasant and great with our meal. — 4 years ago
Dégustation à l’aveugle de 5 pinots. Très frais, un fruité engageant, se boit facilement, un délice sans montrer la complexité des autres. Mon no 4 et un beau pirate pour déjouer le panel qui l’a choisi no 3.
Blind tasting of 5 Pinots. Fresh with generous fruit, drinks easy and delicious without showing the complexity of other’s. My no 4 and a nice pirate to throw off the panel which close it no 3. 90-91

Sunday night and I have opened the 2016 Josef Leitz Rüdesheimer Magdalenenkreuz Spätlese Riesling from the Rheingau region of Germany.
On the nose there is green apple, lemon/lime, pear, the ever present rubber bicycle tire, honeycomb and jasmine.
On the palate there is the green apple, apricot, pear, lime, petrol, lanolin and a good minerality.
This wine is sweet but in balance, light to medium in body with a smooth oily mouthfeel and medium + acidity which leads right into a medium long fresh fruit finish. I hope everyone's weekend was a joyous one? With the week ahead please stay safe and healthy and before you know it it will be the weekend once again. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 6 years ago
On the beach via bicycle with cheese and sausage. Maybe bonus points for situation, but still a lovely wine — 7 years ago

The 86 is still in fine shape. One the nose, the fruit are slightly stewed & mashed. Dark currants, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, creamy black raspberries. Tarry notes, bay leaf, dark chocolate, dark spice, black turned earth, dry stones, eucalyptus and fresh & dry red flowers. The tannins are completely resolved. The body is medium and mouthfeel clean, lush & ripe. Blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, creamy black raspberries & strawberries-blue fruits come on late. Tarry notes, bay leaf, dark chocolate, mocha, dark spice with heat that intensifies and rises off the palate as it sets, mixed berry cola, black tea, rich, moist black turned earth, dry stones, dry crushed rocks, used leather, dry stems, old tobacco, mint, eucalyptus, violets, fresh & dry red flowers. There is still sound structure, great length, balance and nice complexity. The acidity is like a waterfall and the long, beautiful finish goes on and on and on. If you have the 86, it’s beautiful, but drink them now or very soon as they will start to slip going forward. The cork was in decent shape. However, I used “The Durand” corkscrew just to be safe. Always use it on 25 year plus wines just to be safe...100% removal rate getting them completely intact. Photos of, our bicycle Santa towing his wine & our color changing Christmas candles. Last night we opened the 2021 Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett. This is from Mülheim, Germany in the Mosel.
On the nose there is yellow apple, lemon, lime, bicycle tire, crushed gravel and minerality.
On the palate there is lemon, lime, nectarine, lime peel, peach, honey, honeycrisp apple and minerality.
This wine is light to medium bodied with a sweet viscous velvety mouthfeel medium - to medium acidity that leaves you with a medium to medium + lemon lime stone fruit finish. Have a great weekend and enjoy it with family and friends. Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 3 years ago

Recco by som at Big Poppa. Kooky winemaker with made up name. A pirate! Looks super big and starts tannin-y but softens up nice. — 7 years ago
Wonderful soft palate with notes of plum and blackberry. Some cherry on the front end with a hint of asphalt. Full mouthful of peach and grapefruit with undertones of almond, tobacco, pine, licorice, cardamom, red velvet, turmeric, oatmeal, cayenne, newspaper, Oreos, bicycle chain, chitlins, camembert, burnt umber, huckleberry, Ripple, plain yogurt, lemongrass, kohlrabe, anise, eggplant, kohlrabi, everything bagel, paczki, aspartame, caramel, coconut, latte, beef carpaccio, pine nuts, Wonder Bread, calamari, watermelon radish Jolly Rancher, aglet, sawdust, gnocchi and red grape. Finish is definitely Bruno Kirby. Pretty complex. — 7 years ago

THIS is why I spend a little more to drink Matthew Rorick Forlorn Hope wines. Most are pleasurable; the occasional one is outstanding. This is the latter. — 3 years ago
Wednesday night and tonight's wine is the 2019 Joh. Jos Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett Riesling.
On the nose there is honey, green apple, lime, pear, apricote, rubber bicycle tire and flint stone.
On the palate there is green apple, lime, lemon, minerality, orange peel, honey and a bit of salinity.
This wine is medium bodied with a viscous texture that is a bit sweet but not overly so and high acidity that moves into a long citrus minerality finish. I hope everyone is doing well staying safe and healthy. Have a great rest of the week. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 5 years ago
Our pizza wine tonight.
The nose shows; dark currants, sweet & a touch sour dark cherries, blackberries, stewed black plum, kirsch cherries, notes of blueberries, poached strawberries on the edge of the glass, dark liqueur, dark tarriness, tobacco, leather, saddle-wood, limestone minerals, sandy, dry top soil, dark turned soils, black olive, dry herbs, steeped fruit tea, mid fruit cola with a hillside of florals and a dominance of lavender at the end.
The body is medium full but, puts on weight as it decants. The tannins are nicely rounded but grab the palate on the long set. The structure, tension, length and balance are farther along than I would expect but, in a great spot. It is pure elegance on the palate. Dark currants, sweet & a touch sour dark cherries, blackberries, lean black raspberries, stewed black plum, kirsch cherries, notes of blueberries, hints of rhubarb, poached strawberries on the edge of the glass, dark liqueur, dark tarriness, softly layered, dark spice, tobacco, leather, saddle-wood, expresso roast, limestone & sandstone minerals, sandy, dry top soil, dark turned soils, black olive, dry herbs, steeped fruit tea, mid fruit cola, dark roses for days, a hillside of bright florals with a dominance of lavender at the end. The acidity is like a waterfall. The long finish is; soft, round, ripe, well balanced fruit & earth and persists several minutes.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me! Ever notice how much pirate talk (arrrgh!) has in common with Scottish? This scotch has all the tropical coconut aromas you’d expect, plus balance and complexity. Dead men tell no tales! — 7 years ago
