1st release of Montes Alpha was in 1988 when Montes became one of the first premium wineries in Chile. Today Aurelio Montes continues leading the winemaking effort. A blend of 90% Syrah, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon & 3% Viognier. Very dark red with aromas of berry fruit and cedar spice notes. On the palate blueberry and cherry flavors with cacao, leather and vanilla oak. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with toasty spice. Nice value. Tasted twice. — 3 years ago

A new tasting experience on several levels. Had never heard of or tasted this grape varietal, Schioppettino. I was looking for a lighter red off the menu at Settimo, Guy Grossi’s new Brisbane venture. Chosen purely because of its location in Friuli ie. cooler climate. The Somm was in the dark but the wine ended up being a revelation. Red cherry and cranberry - intense white pepper on nose and palate. Dried red florals. Love this style. Will be on the lookout for this Cuvée in the future. — 5 months ago
£7.99 for a magnum at LIDL. Hard to go wrong with this wine at this price — 4 years ago
Cuvée/Grand Cru from this family winery. 2016 was a great vintage for Barolo, back when you still had snow on the ground in early October. For the past three years the lack of snow/cold weather has really made harvesting extremely challenging in this region, to say the least. This specific bottle however shows a spectacular version of Barolo with rose petals, cherry, licorice, a bit of old leather, a classically delicate style of Barolo for sure. Showing signs of integration with softer tannins and a prolonged finish. Cheers. — 7 months ago
The 2018 Primitivo Settimo Ceppo displays black cherries, dusty roses and cloves on the nose. The palate is soft and round. Juicy acidity enlivens its red and blue fruits as sour citrus adds contrast. It finishes potent, long and fresh. The Settimo Ceppo is impressive. $20.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2023) — 7 months ago
Pleasantly surprised with this one. Found this is the back of my wine cellar forgotten about for a couple years. Ended up being a really nice old world Italian red. No idea what the vintage is — 4 years ago
