Dutton Ranch Morelli Lane Vineyard Zinfandel 2020

Incredible zinfandel—really threw me for a loop blind. Amarena cherry, kirsch and cola. Agree that it’s quite meaty for a zin. Scrumptious. — 2 years ago

Quinta do Pessegueiro

Douro Tinto Red Blend 2013

2018 vintage. Owned by Roger Zannier. Vinified by João Cabral Nicolau de Almeida. Dark red with purplish rim. Intense nose with blackberry jam, amarena cherries and subtle oak. Powerful, but fresh , with layers of black fruit packed in a ripe tannic structure. Long spicy finish. Abv. 13,5%. — 4 years ago

Domaine Grand Roche

Irancy Chardonnay 2017

Cold climate burgundy from far north Irancy. Quiet but very fresh on first taste, strong roses and violets. Day two acid mellowed and gave way to amarena cherries. Great value if you’ve got the time to let her breathe! — 4 years ago

Produttori del Barbaresco

Riserva Montefico Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2015

N: Like cherries dipped in balsam/menthol. Mushrooms, underbrush, amarena cherries, leather,on and on.
P: Bright acids and furry tannins, but mid weight, stony, nary a trace of wood, blood/iron, so pleasurable. A sense of tar. Constantly evolving.
1 hr decant.

L'Ancienne Mercerie

Les Petites Mains Faugères Red Blend 2017

2017 vintage. Nathalie and François Caumette make very reliable organic wines and this entry level wine is no exception. A blend of Carignan (40%), Grenache (30%), Syrah (20%) and Mourvèdre (10%) on schisteous soils. Dark red with purplish rim. Blackberries, amarena cherries and fresh rosemary in the nose. In the mouth it has power, slightly jammy fruit and an intense spiciness. The tannins are a bit rustic, but not drying. Very good length. This wine has a lot of character, more power than refinement, but excellent value at around 11 euro. — 6 years ago

Château Tour Prignac

Grande Réserve Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2022

2022 vintage. Partly made from a plot named " La Colline", this is Cabernet Sauvignon dominated. Dark red. On first impact, the oak was a bit dominating, after 30 minutes the blackberries and Amarena cherries are showing up. Seriously concentrated, with more black than red fruits, ripe tannin and good acidity. While the wine can handle the oak ( patience required), I feel that this wine would be even better with a less heavy hand on the oak. Abv. 14,5%. — 7 months ago

Couvent des Jacobins

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

1989. Somehow this estate remains a bit under the radar, but the wines are very reliable and age beautifully. Amarena cherries, rose petals, cedar and a hint of trufle. Velvety mouthfeel with elegance and depth and a long finish. Excellent. — 4 years ago

Vino de la Tierra Castilla y León Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra Red Blend 2014

Enticing & seductive with spicy, fresh red fruit, with some ripe cherry, a touch of amarena and a fresh, mineral edge. So fresh, lively, inviting.
Light yet luscious on the palate, vibrant juicy cherry acidity. Love the tannins - grippy yet sappy and quite polished.
Cherries & raspberries with a orange peel sidekick. Delicious.
This is a great wine - authentic & so fresh & juicy yet elegant at the same time.
You just gotta love Gredos.

Garnet coloration. On the nose, amarena cherry, plum, vanilla, sweet toasted oak and forest floor. On the palate, same notes as on the nose, with a long plum and sweet toasted oak finish. Big, bold, full bodied and lush. Great amarone. — a year ago

Erste + Neue Kellerei

Kalterersee Classico Superiore Südtirol Alto Adige Schiava 2020

Brick rim and super pale transparent salmon color. Some pink and purple floral aromatics on the nose, a little funk but not overpowering or off putting whatsoever.
Great acidity, balanced alcohol, very smooth and light tannin that linger to deliver a peppery finish. Overall complex and delicate on the palate with amarena cherry flavor and some artificial pink candy like hubba bubba or cotton candy saltwater taffy. Really desirable minerality similar to the whites I’ve tried from this region. i don’t think you need to chill this before drinking. Would definitely recommend and I’d buy it again for $20 in that 90-92 range for me.

Cockburn's

Vintage Port Blend 2000

Black candied amarena cherries dipped in melted bitterchocolate. Wow…
Complex nuances of asphalt, damp earth, soy sauce and oriental spice. Open and generous, wonderful freshness and purity. Not alcoholic at all, this is an extremely well-crafted and beautiful Port wine. 😍

Domaine Tour Saint Michel

Cuvée du Lion Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

Absurd value from @wtso
Pnp let sat for an hour or so, initially very jammy but that blew off.
N: Dark red fruits verging on black, Amarena cherries, tobacco, earth, iron.
P: That sense of iron repeats, virtually no tannins, Sense of place, yes.
As another reviewer said, you could drink this down easy.
We’re still looking for complexity though.

Château Pierbone

Haut-Médoc Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2010

Pierbone is the second wine of Cru Bourgeois Château Peyrabon, property of Patrick Bernard (also owner of Bordeaux négociant Millésima and cousin of Olivier Bernard who owns Domaine de Chevalier). While it doesn't have the depth and structure of the grand vin, it shows how well some of these second wines can age in great vintages like 2010. Drinking beautifully at 10 years old it has a slightly jammy Amarena cherries nose, intertwined with hints of cocoa and cedar wood. In the mouth the jamminess of the cherry fruit is well-balanced by the acidity and the ripe tannin. Not particularly complex, but a delight to drink now and well worth the 18 euros for a mature Haut-Médoc. Abv. 13,5%. — 6 years ago
