Alto Adige, Trentino Alto Adige

Peter Dipoli

Voglar Alto Adige Sauvignon 2016

Probably one of the better varietal Sauvignon you will try. Wonderful craftsmanship from Alto Adige, the forgotten corner of Italian wine. Fermentation at high temperature, maturation in acacia wood with regular bottonage, not your normal SB recipe. Perfectly ripe fruit, a dash of herbs and a stroke of honey over a pronounced stone crushed minerality. With time in the glass the minerality becomes even more nuanced and new buttery notes appears. Great texture on the palate where the savory quality comes again and brings the fruit throughout a long finish. 2 hours in the decanter, 12°C and time in the glass makes it even stronger. — 4 days ago

Lighter wine (like a Pinot) with smoky, tart fruit flavors. Higher acidity. Delicious with curry! — 14 days ago

Az. Agr. Baron Widmann (Andreas Baron Widmann)

Südtiroler Vernatsch 2013

Roasted beets, allspice, porcini, freshly-turned earth, roast squab juices. Explosively aromatic and engaging, with an ethereally fine texture and incredible freshness and length on the palate. A haunting and evocative presence here that few 12.5% alcohol modern reds can manage. The only comparisons that come to mind are old Bize Savignys. I now understand why so many experts believe Andreas Widmann to be Italy’s greatest grape grower. — 22 days ago

Abbazia di Novacella (Stiftskellerei Neustift)

Kerner 2017

Love this wine! Like a Pinot Grigio/Riesling love child. Fantastic aromatics, zippy acidity, and lovely round mouthfeel. Killer value and a super cool winery (monks!). Italian alpine whites ftw. — 8 days ago
