Wine Mouth Tues.
Ribolla Gialla from the Oslavia and Hum vineyards, vines aged 18 to 40 years, planted at 180–220 m, facing south and south east on ponca (opoka/flysch) soils. Harvested by hand first 10 days of October. Two to four months of maceration on the skins and aged four years in oak barrels (30 hl) then two years in bottle. TA 6 g/l, pH 3.7. According to Alex Simčič, 2012 was a warm year, less dry than 2011. Saša Radikon explained that you have to reduce production to get complete ripeness for this length of skin contact. Started green harvest early July, reducing the crop by up to 50% in 2018, for example.
Deep orangey gold. Amber bright. Fabulous aroma – so intense. Orange, Seville orange marmalade (but not sweet), ginger, dried grasses, reduced apricots, spice. Deep and chewy and fresh on the palate. Amazing intensity of spiced, dried orange peel. A contrast between bitter/sour fruit sweetness and the sour, salty complexity. Orange-infused tea. Firmly tannic but so well balanced by the fruit. The flavour lasts forever and it is so utterly mouth-watering. Juicy, salty finish even in a tannic wine and then all that lovely apricot-ripe sweetness even though it is dry. 2022 vintage.
Labelled as Sauvignon Very….it’s actually Friulano.
Founded in 1860. Marjan took over from his father in 2008.
Brda wine region borders Collio region of Friuli-Venezia Giullia in north east Italy.
A portion of Marjan’s 18 hectares are located in Italy..
Bright, shiny gold in colour.
Yellow flowers, ripe Asian apples, chamomile and almonds.
Rich and round.
There is definitely lees contact ere.

Two part review!
1. BF that knows about wine: Great.
2. Me that knows nothing: Good. Paired with “What We Do in the Shadows” and homemade branzino and scallops. Unmemorable but nice for this night. — 2 years ago

This was great. Crystal clean, vibrant and intense. Stone fruit and white flowers on the nose. Palate is grippy, this wine is exciting and energetic, with a squeeze of lemon chasing the stone fruit palate. A touch of bitterness on the finish and great acidity. Serious wine. Quite young, Impressive. — 4 years ago

An absolute delight. This wine is incredible-- everything a grand cru Bordeaux has for a third the price. — 4 months ago
