"La Cueille" Bugey-Cerdon Sparkling Gamay Poulsard

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor David Newman is leading a live-to-picture performance of Leonard Bernstein’s score for “West Side Story”, originally directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
For live-to-picture productions, the orchestra performs the entire movie score in real time as the film unspools. (Vocals, dialogue and effects are isolated from the original music track.) The BSO installed very fancy and large LED screens on the perimeter of the Shed facing the Lawn, amazing!

Sparkling strawberry juice! So fun, love this wine. Please see my prior notes.

Very strawberry, intense skin color extraction, very nice, in a year, I hope this is where the '16 is now. See my prior notes please.

Memory Found Syrah 2013

The 2013 ‘Memory Found’ Syrah is a head-turning and seductive release from the incredibly talented winemaker, Matt Reynvaan. On the nose this shows massive range, from Hoisin sauce to peat moss to wet stone and citrus rind to brandied dark cherries all taking shape beautifully in the glass. Despite its age and the heat of the vintage, this is lithe and youthful, showing a wonderful combination of tension and purity. Flavors of pipe tobacco, chocolate covered dark cherries, roasted figs, wet stones, blood orange zest and umami all marvelously combine. The salinity of the wine also adds wonderful appeal, as this shows remarkable complexity and range, through the finish. Overall, this is a stunning Syrah that will be best enjoyed within the next five to ten years. — 2 months ago

Hayes Family Wines

Regional Series Barossa Valley Cabernet Shiraz 2016

Magnificent, full bodied, plush, decadent Aussie personalisation of a 'Super Tuscan' Cab Shiraz blend. Crafted by master winemaker Andrew Seppelt through Brett Hayes' pioneering newish kid off the block 'Hayes Family Wines'. Don't be fooled by the youth of Brett's venture, these wines display a history and heritage steeped in barossas's finest terroir, knowledge and nous. These are grapes from Barossa's hallowed Ebeneezer dirt, and Shultz vineyard dirt at that. But it's Andrew's knack for oeniological alchemy that extracts the finest from the blend, making a wine that is so plush, rounded and powerful it feels like donning your red velvet smoking jacket and sinking into a soft armchair in your best old slippers.
The only disappointing thing about this wine is that, in my humble opinion, it really needs a good 8-10 years of cellaring to reach its full potential. Have one now to enjoy it's youthful vibrancy and stash the rest of you can leave it alone!
I hear that this will be the only vintage blending both grapes from Barossa soil, so grab this unique vintage while you can. I believe future vintages with be Barossa Shiraz and Coonawarra Cab Sauv. The Aussie finest bride and groom upbringing of this pair. I can't wait to see what the future holds.
NB: the author is neither commercially connected to Hayes Family Wines' or receives free bottles to sample. All wine was purchased by the author.

Loving this bottle, notes are a little different tonight, citrus pith, green apple and cooked grain (oh so faint tho). The show ended and we finished this in the parking lot as we waited for the insane traffic to dissipate. So much better once it warms up. 3hr decant before the show.

Cachapoal Valley Carménère 2014

Green bell pepper nose. Peppery blueberry spice mouth. Nice body.
After naturally aerating, TAR demoinates the nose, followed by tastes of green pepper, raspberry and leather. Incredible the changes that this wine undergoes with just a bit of exposure.
Pair with mole sauce and Spanish inspired cuisine, but nothing overly spicy on the heat scale.

Dry for a spätlese, no formal notes, we enjoyed this on my tailgate as we waited for the crazy traffic tonight to get out of the lot. We witnessed no less than (2) accidents with drivers unable to manage a standard transmission on a wet hill (oh yeah we got rained on during the show tonight).

Yes, a great show. I might have caught myself singing a few times, 'I feel pretty'...😜. The BSO brings the sound level of the orchestra up a little higher, for obvious reasons, above what's traditionally the level in the film. The minor collisions are inevitable in one lot, it's hilly and rain makes the grass slick. Love watching those whom think that more gas is the substitute for low traction. 9x out of 10x it's just someone lightly smacking the rear of the car in front, until they reach the pavement. Most of the second home owners here don't drive aging Datsun's, so that always interesting.
