Took 2+ hours to open up, but this was a very good Nebbiolo. Medium-full (14.5%) with pronounced and structured tannins, tart cherry, and perky, peppery acidity. A little hot and astringent on the nose, and a prickly mouthfeel. With pancetta white beans, Bella mushrooms and kale on crispy rustic bread + late heirloom caprese. Great early Fall meal! — 2 years ago
Barbaresco albeisa 2010
This Nebbiolo has a very light smokey aroma, with bright red current, cherry jolly rancher candy, porcini mushroom and black licorice.
Firm tannins and really nice acidity.
Could use another 5 year in the bottle.
I really enjoyed this wine! — 10 years ago
Marcenasco is the first site where Ratti started to make Barolo. When he was still in Brazil working for Cinzano a certain Bruno Giacosa selected the location for him.
Renato Ratti is arguably the most important person for the development of the reputation of Barolo the way it is now.
He was the first to map the vineyards, pointing out the best crus; he spread the use of the Albeisa bottle in the consortium after studies on old book. He made Barolo become a DOCG.
He just saw and achieved what others could only smell.
He is the most highly regarded innovator of the area and everyone looks up to his memory.
Disappeared too early in 1988, he left to his son Pietro an incredible legacy.
The winery is located in La Morra, nonetheless their wines age fantastically specially the Marcenasco that drinks quite well early, like this example from 2020, but will also benefit from 10 + years in the bottle.
Tannin is smooth, fruit is there and we see some balsamic and floral already.
Only at the beginning of the journey. — 12 days ago
Not sure where I got this one but 13 yr old barberesco drinking within its window. Delicious. Perfectly balanced acid/tannin/fruit with more dark fruit than red. Tart plum with rose tar. Very nice. Mid palate a bit bitter but love the front and back end. Goes on and on. — 3 years ago
Pleasant surprise. Nice medium bodied red blend. — 9 years ago
Wrong wine in Delectable: this is not the "Vigneto Rocche" but the "Rocche dell'Annunziata", the famous La Morra vineyard that Accomasso and several other great producers make a little wine from.
This is classic and textbook Nebbiolo that shows the rounder plusher side to the La Morra tannin structure, though they are very present but starting to resolve. Beautiful notes of raspberry, cherry, tar and roses jingles with savory spices. Med/med+ ruby, then med+ all the way across the nose and palate to the finish. — 3 years ago
