Gorgeous nose. Haven’t had in 2 years. Lemon, lime, crushed rocks, framing oak that is so subtle and masterful. White flowers and saline. Just a stunningly expressive and pure nose. I like the laser focus of the 19’s aromas. Palate is stunning. Concentrated and super mineral. So juicy, pure and layered. The most mineral and concentrated of the 18/19/20 trio. Perfect balance. I think this is the best bottle I‘ve had of Cassaneas. It’s just so pure and focused. The nose, as it airs gets more broad but doesn’t lose any focus. More earthy elements now. So succulent. Like a perfect stream of BB on one’s palate and so saline. The saline and florals give you such a sense of Chassagne. Stunning.
After 4 hours this come alive (even more!) with gorgeous clear liquid minerals on the nose. Smoke and super complex. Palate is so saline and mineral. Luscious and gorgeously long. — 10 days ago
Agree with @Lyle Fass a bit closed atm but showed very well over a few hours. Punches above the humble appellation. Elegant meursault vibes, without any vulgar opulence. Judicious wood, spices, tropical fruit, good concentration. Excellent balance given the vintage. — 14 days ago
Pop and pour. Sublime for bourgogne blanc. The reduction has blown off, and this is pure lime, citrus blossom, a touch of vanilla and a hint of almond/hazelnut. On the palate: fantastic acidity, weight and density. More citrus and stone and just caresses the palate. So elegant. At peak, imo. — 6 days ago
Of the 3 grand cru Chablis chez Raveneau, Valmur is my favorite. I find Blanchots less minerally, Valmur the most minerally, Clos just behind Valmur. The best ever for me, shockingly, is 1994 Valmur, then 1996. We had a stunning wine of the trip 2010 Valmur in Champagne at Les Crayeres.
So I was eager to drink 2002. Fabulous from the get go. Pop and pour, first w a pâté de campagne, then with roast duck and herb risotto at Opal in Santa Barbara. Waiter foolishly declined the proffered pour.
Just super citrus zest bejeweled with minerals and hints of menthol, super acidity, all balanced and long, depth and weight with no heaviness. Simply great Chablis. Loved it. — 10 days ago
Tremendous bottle. Nose has massive mineral stank with meyer lemon and so many oyster shells. So saline. Deep and enveloping. The Chablis symphony in full effect. Stunning. Young a f on the palate but oh so promising. Perfect balance and terrific tension. Finish is clipped for now but this will grow with air. Luscious finish that is juicy, explosive and so textured. Lovely focus, linearity and hierarchy of flavors. I’ll be back as this airs. Amazing acid structure here. — 6 days ago
See previous entry.
Still pretty spot on review.
This bottle may have been opened a bit colder, straight out of the keeper.
Still great red/black fruits and chewy.
Granite in your mouth. A very tactile wine. Announces it’s presence without taking over. Refreshing & bright.
