Beckstoffer To Kalon Red Wine 2009

9.4

There are worse ways to start a Saturday then tasting & talking wine with Tor Kenward & Andy Beskstoffer having the 1980 BV George Latour Private Reserve & multiple vintages of Tor. Wine 94 technically but age & style 9.6. The experience a 10.

Dark, brooding, delicious. Round, lush and elegance on top of elegance. Lush, perfectly ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum. Smooth dark spice, dark chocolate, sandalwood, candied, dark, red florals framed in violets & lavender, excellent acidity. Balanced, perfect tension & structure and beautiful elegant finish that lasts 90 seconds.

Andy Beckstoffer sold fruit for $150 a ton in the late 1970’s, early 80’s. Today, $50,000 plus a ton and a percentage of the producers bottle price.

Beautiful vintage and starting to spread its wings. Ripe, lush, ruby, floral dark currents. Volcanic clay, limestone powder, fresh tobacco w/ ash, dark, florals, round-round acidity, gorgeous, elegant finish with refined polish for days lasting nearly two-minutes.

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Dark ruby colored. Slightly muted nose, bright fresh fruit. Black and blue fruit up front, chocolate, tobacco, but of red cherry, minerality, quite complex, tannins tight at the open, needs a nice decant at this point. Bright, crisp, silky mouthfeel. Long finish. Some of my favorite wines are from Dr. Crane, and this is another one. — 2 months ago

Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

This Oakville Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon starts off with an opulent bouquet and hits the pallet soft, smooth and velvety. The flavors are a robust array he of berries with hints of chocolate and leather. A winner. — 2 months ago

Crossfire Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Had several bottles of this wine in the past 5 years. And this one is easily the best.
Gorgeously rich and pure on the nose: black cherries, blueberry pancakes and blackberry preserve.
This all echoes on the palate and some well dosed pinches of caramel, cocoa, coffee and toast take this wine to another level. Just enough acidity to give it some fraicheur, soft and ripe tannines backing up the long and incessant finish.
Totally beautiful.

Had this twice something like 5 years ago, back then it was still a bit rough around the edges. Should have waited much longer reading your notes

@Jan A Maybe yes, maybe no. Could be due to substantial bottle variation as well.
