Château Montrose

La Dame de Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Took an hour to open up to anise and red fruit notes, showing some maturity. Very impressive second wine from montrose. — 4 days ago

It’s the 2002 Cos that I want you to focus on. For some Delectable reason, I can’t adjust the wine designation. — 6 days ago

Hard to focus on that with the beautiful view! Looks like a great afternoon - three great wines and a cigar.

The wine was great, but the company was way better. The view @Sharon B is from my friend’s deck atop a mountain. @Cliff Benson also supplied many of the fine wines that we slurped. Thanks so much for a wonderful w/end, Cliff.

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

Annual boys trip away. This time to Cairns. Brief notes. Possibly the WOTN. Just medium weight. With aromas of antique shop chest of drawers, old books. Wonderful persistence of flavour. Won’t get better but a very good showing from a lesser year. — 22 days ago

It was really nice. Given the vintage, it wasn't super-surprising but a pleasant confirmation of the property's qualities/pedigree/performance.

Château La Grange

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. The 2018 Bordeauxfest continues (but sadly over with this specimen). Dark dense spearmint plummy nose. High acid. Medium body. Respectfully giving up just enough to rate but clearly needs a week at the beach. Everything in due time, I suppose. Big tannin reservoir and built to revisit in a solid twenty. Maybe hit it again in a baker’s dozen bender for giggles but it structurally lacks a sense of humo(u)r so best not to. Serious stuff. — 15 days ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1982

Tasted blind. Dark color but doesn’t seem too old. Nice old world nose. Notes of plums, old wood, some barn floor, some gravel stone, and some spice. I deduce that this is 80s Bordeaux but I say I don’t think it’s an 82. I go with a guess if 85 Haut Brion. When revealed I remember how the 82 Calon Segur plays it’s hand. It gets bigger and better over the evening. Good stuff but I wouldn’t wait much longer on opening these. — 19 days ago

Château Meyney

Cru Bourgeois Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

Solid older Bordeaux, great color, youthful, of course also showing some of the 1980s “Cordier Funk”, but complex, medium-long finish, lovely older Bordeaux!! (This followed a super-corked 1986 Haut-Bages-Liberal, which was a freaking drain pour!!) — 19 days ago

Château Saint-Pierre

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

2014 vintage. Super dry and powerful. Medium bodied but drinking like it’s (ballad of a) the thin man. Smoke/char in the nose. Upfront coffee/tobacco and raspberry flavors but little else. Not a good introductory Bordeaux for the masses. For those already smitten, I can see this going 40+ years but there will never be fat years. This is a (c)lean machine. Monolithic and totally old-school Bordeaux. — 4 days ago
