Only pale to mid crimson in colour with a tawny edge at 26 years of age. Black and blue fruits with game and a coffee bean note. The medium bodied yet rich palate is savoury and earthy with blackberry and just so so silky with resolved tannins and low acid. Not sure that I agree totally with Bob Campbell MW’s description - “like getting into an old Jag on a hot day”, but I love the imagery and can see where he’s coming from. Jancis said “pure hedonism “ and gave it 19/20. The latest iteration of H of G (2017) is selling for around $950 a bottle in Brisbane. No doubt brilliant but too expensive for me. I remember paying $12.50 for the 1982 vintage on release. There is a certain H of G character that is recognisable over many vintages over the years. Must be one of the most unique Shiraz vineyards in the world with vines up to a 150 years old. A privilege to drink this wine and close to perfection with 98 points. — 2 months ago

Bright fruit, lovely palate and layers — 11 days ago
Deep, rich and ripe nose of loads of stones, black cherry, dark roses, violets, earth, bittersweet cocoa, and that classic Pommard stoniness. Ultra deep. Almost like a compote on the nose. Palate is dark, juicy, sleek and slippery. Super concentrated but never heavy. Terrific, delicious fruit that is backed up by superb stoniness. Exceptional purity and wonderful freshness and balance. This is a brooding bottle of wine that really balances power, ripeness and grace. This needs some air and i’ll be back but truly a phenomenal wine. — 8 days ago
Hard to believe this is Pinot Gris, so much color! Ruby red with an orange tinge, very good clarity with some lees sediment. Citrus note in nose, grapefruit and plum notes in mouth with mineral finish. The winemaker gets Italian plum and pomegranate in this, I can see the former. Really different wine, easy to sip but fair amount of skin tannins, maceration here. Good acid, fresh fruity flavors but subtly so — 2 months ago

Tried twice! Located halfway up the hill dominating principal valley of Barolo, lined by vineyards, lies a precious 15th century Abbey of Annunziata. Medium Ruby with complex aromas of berry fruits, oak and fresh floral scents. On the palate dried cherry, tobacco, licorice, espresso and fresh herbs give this full-body wine grace and elegance. Soft fine dusty tannins, with earthy notes, on a well balanced frame makes this hot vintage wine approachable today as well as have room to run over the next decade. Very Nice! — a month ago

Deeper in color than a trendy Provence rosé this also celebrates grenache in all its glory - red cherry, strawberry, raspberry and white peach on the nose and palate. Good acidity and a lovely red fruit juiciness. Wonderful with food, but equally enjoyable on its own — a month ago
