San Lourenzo Red Blend

Sandlands

Contra Costa County Red Table Wine 2021

Popped and poured; consumed over several hours. The 2021 “Contra Costa County” pours a deep ruby with a nearly opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of brambles, strawberries, blueberries, dusty books, purple flowers, crushed gravel and the softest of baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, tart and grippy. Having some experience pairing Sandlands RTW’s with various meals, I can state with some confidence that the Lodi versions are better designed for lighter fare while the Contra Costa County versions are designed for heartier meals. Drink now with patience and through 2033. — 12 days ago

Bedrock Wine Co.

Evangelho Vineyard Heritage Zinfandel Blend 2022

The 2022 Evangelho Heritage blend by Bedrock is very light on its feet with a streak of bracing acidity — almost effervescence — along with light tannins. It’s a deep hazy purple in its youth with a nose of tart berry compote and leather. Seems like it will mature nicely. — 22 days ago

Lineage

Livermore Valley Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

Pencil/graphite, cinnamon, cherry, prune, and plum. Still very young and could be laid down for many more years. More Merlot (31%) in this blend than normal which seems to favor red fruit flavors. — 9 days ago

Castello di Ama

Gran Selezione San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2017

Too young but still very nice with a 5h decant - suggest checking back in another 3-5 years. Tannins are very present, but the fruit and earth are very nice. Good acid too, especially for a hot vintage. — 15 days ago

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2020

Began in 1944, Mario Incisa acquired Cab Sauv & Franc vine cuttings, planted them on San Guido estate, called Castiglioncello, Sassicaia, "the place of many stones". A blend of 85% Cab Sauv, 15% Cab Franc. Lovely ripe fruit & spice aromas. Bold berry fruit flavors with spice, oak, leather & cacao, a powerhouse. Soft tannins allows current enjoyment. Long silky smooth fresh finish ending with fruit, oak and spice. Great now, will age, but drink now, outstanding. Little pricey at $300. Tasting Sample. — a month ago

Antonelli San Marco

Montefalco Rosso Sangiovese Blend 2020

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2020 Montefalco Rosso is a dynamic blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Montepulciano and 15% Sagrantino. It opens with dusty rose, dried strawberries and worn-in leather. The palate is silky and supple, with ripe red and blue fruits, saline minerals and spice. Its acidity pops through the finale. $20.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, November 2023) — 25 days ago
