Bourgogne Chardonnay 2016

Nose has intense spring flowers, ripe/aromatic pear, dried lemon, green apple flesh and (minor) wet slate.

Palate has warmed yellow apple, dried strawberry, ripe pear, light oak treatment, minor acidity on the long finish.. Amazing, outstanding bottle!

Much more weight to the palate than expect, blind this is not Bourgogne Blanc to me, baby Chassagne?

Decanted 8 hours.

Straight up one of the very best Bourgogne Blancs I’ve had for $37.99 and higher.

Again, drinks like a well made 1st Cru Meursault.

This caught on with a few of the right palates in NYC not long ago. It won’t stay at this price...grab what you can now. Especially, with 25% tariffs on newer vintages.

2015, 2016 & 2017 all very good.

Previous notes will work.

Going towards being a little too reductive for me, second day after opening was definitely better, edges rounded off. — 9 days ago

Stunning nose, amazing green apples, unripe pears, gorgeous purity and discreet wood, spice, so nuanced, insane inner mouth aromas. So elegant. So pure. So clean. Stunningly detailed and so concentrated and super pure. So so so elegant. Structured and deep. Amazing depth and intense minerality. Elegant and so so deep. Elite spice. Long finish. So so good and has many years ahead of it but today it is crazy. Best bottle of this yet.

After 8-9 hours open this is crazy. Gorgeous melon, honeydew now, spearmint, almost bottarga, just so detailed and complex. A kelp/seaweed thing as well. Just so distinct. Dazzlingly pure and elegant with tactile sweetness. So long and lithe. Hugely almost overwhelming mineral finish.

L'Opéra Des Vins Concerto Pineau d'Aunis 2018

Robinot. Madman de Loire. He doesn’t rush anything. He makes wines you haven’t tried before.

L’Opera Des Vins is a mixed bag of Pineau d’Anuis and Chenin in Pet Nat form.

Pours a beautiful bright orange creamsicle. Tiny bubbles, lots of them. Deep yeast driven fruity notes of blood oranges, persimmon, Ceylon cinnamon, and coriander.

It’s hard to tell if this is truly off dry or truly fruity. Or both.

As special and interesting as any Pet Nat I’ve ever tried.

Romane Machotte Gigondas Red Blend 2016

2016 tasted Sept 2020. Mint and strawberries on the nose. First taste on the tongue is of slightly under ripe cherries. But despite the immediate astringency, there is a soft tannic structure to this wine. It’s precisely what this wine needs to carry it through the mid palate and then into a long finish. Lots of jangly high notes on the mid palate, but it has a soft ending that reminds me of Belgian milk chocolate. I normally set myself a limit of drinking only half a bottle max at a time. But I finished off this bottle. No doubt I’ll pay for it in the morning, but this is wine is irresistible. The 2015 was excellent. The 2016 is even better. — 7 days ago

Caillerets Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2016

Stunning. Is there a better Caillerets? Not for me. What a nose. Black cherries, licorice, morello cherries, even some cranberry, dried leaves, stunning and opens up beautifully. Palate is super elegant. Super fine. Amazing fruit density yet so elegant and superb minerality. This is profound. Earthy sweet fruit. Velvety tannins and huge mineral force. Long profound finish. Goes on and on. — 2 months ago
